REFUSE COLLECTOR

Job Summary:

The Refuse Collector accompanies the Refuse Truck Operator on a pre-determined route, ensuring that trash and materials are cleared from the community in a timely and orderly fashion. 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

• None

Duties/ Responsibilities:

• Accompanies Refuse Truck Operator along pre-determined route and schedule, collecting solid trash and waste materials.
• Collects refuse materials using manual or automated methods, dismounting and remounting trucks as needed.
• Notifies driver, dispatcher, or manager of delays, unsafe sites, accidents, breakdowns, extra trash, or other issues.
• Operates machinery to hoist or compress refuse.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Ability to understand and follow directions.
• Ability to adhere to safety standards and guidelines.

Education and Experience:

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• One year of experience preferred.

Physical Requirements:

• Prolonged periods standing, walking, lifting, and throwing.
• Must be able to lift and carry at least 60 pounds at times.
• Must have physical strength, balance, hand-eye coordination, and stamina necessary to complete the work.
• Ability to work outdoors in all-weather conditions.
• Must be able to work safely in a noisy environment with odors present.
