JOB SUMMARY: Yakima Valley Museum is looking for a full-time Facility Maintenance Coordinator dedicated to the upkeeping of the appearance, operation, and maintenance of the Museum. This candidate would oversee the maintenance and janitorial of the Museum building and support the growing Event & Rental program. This position would contribute to the growth of the museum and join a team of dedicated professionals.
ABOUT THE MUSEUM: Founded in 1952, the Yakima Valley Museum provides residents and visitors with high-quality, engaging, and educational exhibits and programs on central Washington’s cultural and natural history. The Museum is one of only three museums in Eastern Washington accredited by the American Alliance of Museums, and with a 65,000 square foot facility, is one of the largest cultural history museums in the state. The Museum’s collection consists of over 48,000 objects, including an art collection of 1,400 works, and a large regional archive and library.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Maintenance:
- Perform general routine maintenance tasks in a timely manner that contribute to the successful operation, maintenance and repair of the Yakima Valley Museum. These include, but are not limited to:
o Plumbing
o Electrical
o Carpentry
o HVAC
o Painting
- Coordinate and schedule contractors for maintenance and repair projects.
- Maintain working knowledge of the daily operations and maintenance requirements for the systems within the Museum;
- Create maintenance schedules for facilities and contractual work to ensure minimum interference with Museum operations;
- Oversee annual maintenance schedule; coordinating with contractors when appropriate for preventative maintenance;
- Develop internal work order system to efficiently prioritize maintenance tasks.
Janitorial:
- Oversee the cleanliness of all spaces within the Yakima Valley Museum including exhibit galleries, office spaces, lobby and kitchen. This includes performing daily janitorial duties including vacuuming public spaces and offices, mopping, disinfecting public spaces like door handles, handrails, elevator buttons and water fountains, emptying trash/recycling bins, sweeping, and cleaning restrooms;
- Ensure all supplies are stocked ;
- Perform monthly cleaning tasks of less traffic areas and spaces;
- Work closely with Curator of Exhibits and Visitor Services Manager on specific tasks related to the care of exhibition spaces;
- Coordinate and schedule contractors when needed to address larger cleaning issues when appropriate including carpet and window cleaning.
Event Support:
- Support the Visitor Services Manager in planning, coordinating, working, and scheduling the Yakima Valley Museum rental spaces;
- Complete all internal and external event set-ups as communicated by the Visitor Services Manager. This includes tables and chairs;
- When appropriate, provide additional technical support for equipment set up for events.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Working knowledge of the operations and maintenance of systems and equipment;
- Proven ability to work with tools and must demonstrate proper safety when using equipment;
- Customer service, communication and organizational skills;
- Ability to prioritize tasks and work under pressure to meet scheduled and unexpected deadlines;
- Ability to work as part of a team;
- This position requires frequently standing and lifting 25 pounds or more;
- Bilingual is preferred, but not required.
EMPLOYMENT COMPENSATION:
This position is full-time at 40 hours per week and $23/hour and includes benefits including health and dental insurance, and paid time off which can be discussed during the interview process. While this position will mainly be a Monday-Friday position, there will be occasional evening and weekend work required. There may also be maintenance or operational issues that arise after hours that may need flexibility in scheduling. If work was completed outside the standard set schedule, another day during the week would be used as flextime. The employer is open to working with the applicant on developing a set schedule that best fits the needs of the museum and the employee.
