What are the responsibilities and job description for the Swim Instructor position at YMCA of Metropolitan Milwaukee?

- Conducting all swim classes in accordance with the YMCA of the USA’s Swimming Lesson Program in an enthusiastic and exciting way.
- Prepared to teach all levels of swimming, maximize swimmer participation every class period, complete and turn in all paperwork as required by supervisor.
- Communicate student progress to swimmers and/or parents throughout a session with the intention of building meaningful relationships with participants.
- Maintain a professional and responsible attitude and demeanor at all times, but will additionally demonstrate a genuine spirit of silliness that will provide participants with a sense of wonder and happiness by the end of every lesson.
- Current certifications in CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, Administering Emergency Oxygen, and Standard First Aid preferred, but may be completed within 30 days of hire.
- Achieve the YMCA Swimming Lesson (YSL) Instructor certification within 3 months of attaining a Swim Instructor position.
- Must be able to pass a swimming skills test, which includes a 300yd swim with proper demonstration of all required strokes, 3 minutes of treading water, and retrieval of a 10 pound weight from 8-10 feet of water.
- Must be able to teach in hot, humid environments.
- Must be able to understand the mentality of children of various ages and adults and respond to their varying states of mind in a way that is fun-loving, engaging, and captivating to students.
