Job Summary:
Responsible for assisting the Chief Operations Officer in the continuing development and implementation of the organization’s direct services program.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Advocacy
- Provide direct assistance to crime victims, their families and friends, and the community via telephone and in-person contacts
- Offer emotional support, resources, referrals and assist with typical struggles created by victimization
- Provide information and referral services to victims/loved ones regarding other agencies, counselors, legal services, medical services, support groups and shelters. Responsible for maintaining up-to-date resources
- Provide follow-up and ongoing contact with clients
- Assist with filing for Crime Victims Compensation, writing Victim Impact Statements, and enrolling in Victim Witness Notification Program
- Maintain accurate records on all client contacts. Complete required statistical information
- Advocate on behalf of victims and survivors within the criminal justice system
- Act as a liaison between victim/family and the media, prosecutors, Crime Victims Compensation to include courtroom advocacy for pre-trial, sentencing, post-sentencing, and appeals
- Provide support and back-up to all direct service regions we serve
- Other duties as assigned
Outreach and Education:
- Collaborate with stakeholders in the criminal justice system and social services agencies to include all regional partners
- Attend and/or facilitate community meetings regarding victim issues
- Identify underserved populations of crime victims in community and explore means to provide information
- Represent YWCA Great Falls at community and professional events, speaking on behalf of the agency to increase awareness of victimization and YWCA Great Falls services
- Promote awareness of services for crime victims
- Ensure that services to domestic and sexual violence survivors are trauma-informed, immediate, and confidential at all times by all staff.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Bachelor’s degree in human services or related field, or equivalent ed./experience.
- Public speaking experience.
- Current Montana driver’s license and proof of auto insurance in compliance with Montana state law.
- Must pass a background check designed to protect the interest of women and children served by the YWCA programs.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- An understanding of domestic and sexual violence issues and how they differ, particularly in relation to the effects on women and children.
- An understanding of the dual service agency challenges and need to champion all sexual assault policies and procedures.
- Ability to maintain confidential information.
- Ability to be assertive and apply conflict management techniques.
- Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with other staff, agencies, and professionals in the community.
- Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of individuals, including adult and child clients, peers, supervisors.
- Strong written, verbal, and organizational skills.
- Good work habits, including ability to organize and manage time and information.
- Knowledge of youth violence prevention.
OTHER: Must comply with agency requirements of strict client confidentiality; professional ethics and agency policies and procedures. Must participate in the following but not limited to staff meetings, trainings, fundraising events, community fairs, outreach efforts, and other events as directed by Administration.
