Full-Time - Sunday - Thursday - 11 PM - 7 AM
Full-Time - Tuesday - Saturday - 11 PM - 7 AM
Location - Clermont County, Ohio

The YWCA Greater Cincinnati maintains two emergency domestic violence shelters for survivors, one in Hamilton County and one in Clermont County. We are looking for a passionate, positive, and empathetic candidate for our shelter advocate position. The Shelter advocate is responsible for maintaining a safe, secure, temporary shelter for survivors and their families who are victims of domestic violence.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Hotline / Phone Management:
- Answers hotline
- Provides crisis counseling, safety planning, and information/referral to callers as appropriate.
- Assists in maintaining referral manual.
- Maintains shelter records.
- Takes messages for residents and staff.
Resident Support:
- Fosters positive, safe, and trauma-informed relationships with residents.
- Conducts intake process for new residents: orientation, tour, and forms.
- Maintains shelter and resident records.
- Assists residents in assessing their immediate and short term needs and continuously revise safety plan.
- Assists residents with parenting support.
- Assists residents in working together to provide a safe, supportive environment.
- Offers crisis counseling, advocacy, and support to residents.
- Helps clients problem solve and gives information about the dynamics of intimate partner violence.
- Assists residents with arranging transportation when appropriate.
- Conducts exit process: safety planning, check out procedure, and forms.
House management:
- Maintains shelter security.
- Maintains shelter records.
- Meets clients material needs including hygiene products, food, over-the-counter medication, etc.
- Checks facility for cleanliness, safety, and security on a regular basis.
- Reports problems to supervisor.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Attends staff meetings and other meetings as requested by supervisor.
- Performs other duties as requested by supervisor
- Adheres to the philosophy and goals of YWCA Greater Cincinnati
- Follows the policies and procedures of the Domestic Violence Shelter.
- Works with and provides on-the-job training and assistance to volunteers as assigned.
Other duties as needed and assigned by Shelter Manager.
Support to Management, Supervisors and Staff
Key Relationships
- Interacts with Shelter Manager, staff, clients, volunteers and other agencies and organizations, i.e. schools, shelters, police, hospitals, etc.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in a field related to advocacy/human services or experience in a residential or intimate partner violence program preferred; ability to work with people from diverse socioeconomic and ethnic/racial backgrounds.
- Experience in trauma informed care.
- Personal qualifications include support of YWCA’s mission to eliminate racism and empower women.
- Flexibile, kind, strong leader, mature, positive attitude, confidence and an understanding of the dynamics of intimate partner violence.
Skills/Specialized Knowledge/Abilities
- Political and social sensitivity
- Excellent communication skills
- Proficiency in MS Office with expertise in Microsoft Word and Excel
- Ability to work independently
- Detail oriented with strong administrative, organizational and computer skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Ability to work with individuals across the spectrum of gender, race, religion, ethnicity, national origin, sexual orientation and socioeconomic backgrounds
- Knowledge of office procedures
