External Lecturer – “Medical Diagnostics” – DIS Stockholm

DIS - Study Abroad is currently hiring an external lecturer to teach the course Medical Diagnostics starting in August 2025.

Course description
This course provides a unique opportunity to study how doctors reach conclusions regarding disease prediction, prevention, diagnosis, and optimal treatment regimens. You will learn about multiple diagnostics tools doctors use in their practices. The emphasis is on how to select the appropriate analysis methods and technologies to conduct analyses, and understand the results and their implications in selected patient diagnoses.

The focus areas are biometrics diagnostics, clinical chemistry, hematology, diagnostic microbiology, histopathology, molecular diagnostics, and diagnostic medical imaging.

Main tasks and responsibilities

  • Classroom teaching and other experiential learning activities
  • Student assessment, grading, and feedback throughout the course
  • Teaching Fall semesters (mid August – mid December) and Spring semesters (mid January – mid May)
  • Teaching takes place Mondays and Thursdays 10:05 – 11:25 at DIS Stockholm
  • Total course load is 23 lectures (1.5 hours each) and 2 field studies per semester, plus grading and feedback

Professional competencies

  • Relevant educational background (MSc. in Biology or related fields, MD, PhD-degree or similar)
  • Experience from research or related
  • Excellent academic English
  • Willingness to engage academically and socially with the students
  • Openness to pedagogical support from DIS
  • Ability to translate DIS’ interactive, hands on teaching philosophy into practice
  • Experience in creating a structured and interactive learning environment

Additional information
This course is also offered in the summer, between May 22-June 12, 2025 and there will be the possibility of observing some of the classes as well as meet the current teacher as part of the preparation needed.
