We expect that you are energetic and ready to participate in all aspects of the clinical trial. Simultaneously, you must have the skills to juggle many tasks at once without losing focus.
In case the lines above describe you - we have a 4-year postdoc position with variable working hours at Clinical Research, Steno Diabetes Center Copenhagen (SDCC) open for occupation by July 1, 2025.
Clinical Research at Steno Diabetes Center Copenhagen
Our clinical interventional research is based on human studies of individuals with obesity, prediabetes, and diabetes and their cardiometabolic complications and co-morbidities. Our studies involve very detailed physiological studies of smaller groups of individuals and larger clinical studies involving several hundred individuals. Our long-term goal is the prevention of obesity and diabetes and their cardiometabolic complications and co-morbidities. One of our focus areas is monogenic diabetes.
The MODERN MODY project
The Steno MODERN-MODY project is an ambitious 5-year national research project initiated and led by Professor Tina Vilsbøll from Steno Diabetes Center (SDC) Copenhagen and involving the other four SDCs in Denmark, SDC Greenland, and Center for Basic Metabolic Research (CBMR) at the University of Copenhagen. Maturity-onset diabetes of the young (MODY) is a heritable type of diabetes caused by a mutation in a single gene. Depending on which gene, treatment and prognosis differ markedly. MODY is characterized by affecting many persons in the same family from a young age, however, most are misclassified and are not receiving optimal care. We aim to describe all persons with MODY in Denmark and Greenland using health registers, kick-start a MODY-cohort for future trials, and in series of smaller clinical trials, show whether new classes of diabetes medications are efficacious in the most common types of MODY. In addition, the large-scale, individual-centered, national clinical research project will improve knowledge of clinical care, prognosis and complications for the different types of MODY. Hereby, we hope to provide novel treatment options, change national and international guidelines and expand knowledge of MODY based on the to date largest and most ambitious study of this form of diabetes.
