Job Posting for Senior Nuclear Safety Engineer at Saltfoss Energy

GUIDE THE PROBABILISTIC SAFETY IMPLEMENTATION UNDERPINNING AN INNOVATIVE NUCLEAR DESIGN

At Saltfoss Energy we are developing a nuclear power plant concept fundamentally different from what exists today. By bringing to market an advanced molten salt reactor we are making nuclear an inexpensive, sustainable, and scalable technology that can make fossil fuels a thing of the past and revolutionise energy markets. The opportunity to make an impact on climate change and provide millions of people with cheap and accessible energy is what inspires all of us every day.

Creating an innovation that can impact the world isn’t easy and requires a diverse team bringing together a range of talents and perspectives. We know that we cannot do this alone, so we work closely with regulators, shipyards, academic institutions, and the nuclear industry from all over the world to develop technologies and materials so we can produce an advanced floating nuclear power plant.

This is your chance to become part of a collaborative research environment where you can chart an uncommonly diverse career and help change the world. Saltfoss’ work environment allows for great influence, the possibility to take on responsibility, and personal growth but also demands flexibility.

THE ROLE

We are looking for a Senior Nuclear Safety Engineer with deep understanding of nuclear safety principles, experience in performing probabilistic analysis and good communication skills.

In this role, you will help identify and implement the systematic steps to demonstrate safety of the Compact Molten Salt Reactor (CMSR) Power Barge throughout all project stages. You will focus on the probabilistic safety assessments required to support safety case development and licensing applications. You will also guide the technical organisation with respect to nuclear safety and its application to the design following a ‘safety by design’ philosophy.

KEY TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the probabilistic safety analysis developments required to support the design and licensing of the CMSR Power Barge within a risk-informed safety approach. Including the interactions with related internal and external stakeholders.
  • Contribute to the growth and development of the nuclear safety team.
  • Contribute to consolidation of the CMSR Power Barge nuclear safety approach.
  • Support engineering design activities from a nuclear safety perspective. Including but not limited to: Identification & maturation of postulated events, safety classification of structures, systems, and components, safety requirements implementation and defence in Depth adequacy.
  • Support licensing activities in the preparation of the CMSR safety case, associated deliverables and regulatory engagement.

PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCIES

  • You hold an MSc. or equivalent in a relevant field (e.g. nuclear engineering).
  • You have a minimum of 10 years of experience working in nuclear safety, supporting the design and licensing of nuclear power plants.
  • You have experience with Probabilistic Safety Analysis (PSA) developments, associated tools (e.g. Risk-Spectrum) and techniques (e.g. FMEA, HAZID, HAZOP).
  • Some experience applying risk-informed performance-based regulatory framework for an advanced reactor is an advantage, but not a prerequisite.
  • Some experience with deterministic safety analysis is an advantage, but not a prerequisite.

PERSONAL COMPETENCIES

  • You are team-oriented and collaborative.
  • You have a strong ability to communicate transparently and clearly with team members and stakeholders.
  • You are self-motivated and capable of working autonomously to meet project deadlines.
  • You are proactive in seeking out new opportunities and addressing potential issues.
  • You balance big-picture thinking with attention to detail when needed.

WHAT WE OFFER

  • The chance to work on ground-breaking technology that will impact the global energy landscape.
  • Working closely with globally acknowledged experts in the field.
  • An international and diverse team.
  • Personal and professional development opportunities and support.
  • Informal and flexible work environment.
  • 6 weeks paid vacation per year.
  • In addition to Danish universal healthcare – private health insurance for certain medical expenses and procedures.
