The Research Training Group 3068, Climate-Informed Engineering, at Hamburg University of Technology, funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG), is dedicated to interdisciplinary research on climate-informed sustainable resource management and environmental engineering. As part of this Research Training Group, we offer dedicated researchers the opportunity to pursue a doctorate in an outstanding research environment at Hamburg University of Technology, in collaboration with the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology and the United Nations University Institute for Water, Environment, and Health (UNU-INWEH).
The advertised position is supervised by the Institute Fluid Dynamics and Ship Theory. We aim to optimize urban design to reduce the heat stress for urban dwellers. In this context, we are seeking a researcher specializing in computational fluid dynamics and geophysics. The ideal candidate will employ and couple state-of-the-art community simulation models for regional/global climate predictions and local urban climate simulations to implement adjoint optimization procedures.
YOUR TASKS
- Development of adjoint optimization procedures
- Development and coupling of numerical methods for thermofluiddynamic and geophysical problems
- Programming of software dedicated to high-performance compute systems, performing complex simulations on high-performance compute system
- Analyses of climate and climate-comfort related phenomena, derivation of design changes
- Publication of results in leading peer-reviewed journals, presentation of findings at scientific meetings and conferences
