Senior Grid Engineer

Matrix Recruitment is hiring a Senior Grid Engineer for our client in Kildare.

Permanent role/ Hybrid

Your new role
Key Responsibilities:

• Plan and check designs for how renewable energy projects (like wind or solar farms) will connect to the electricity grid.
• Work with teams inside and outside the company—like contractors, engineers, and grid operators (such as EirGrid or ESB).
• Make sure everything follows the rules for safety and the national grid's technical requirements.
• Manage the process of turning on (or "energising") new connections to the grid.
• Solve problems and find the best, most cost-effective ways to get projects connected to the grid.
• Track and report on how projects are going—timeline, cost, risks, and performance.

What You Need:

• Degree in electrical engineering, ideally with a MSc.
• Experience working in energy or electricity for 10 years, especially with big, high-voltage projects.
• 5 years’ experience managing 110 kV transmission grid connections in Ireland
• Expert in HV design for 110–400 kV substations, cables, and overhead lines
• Proven track record delivering grid connections for large-scale solar and wind projects
• Understanding of Ireland’s grid system, laws, and technical standards.
• Someone good with technical drawings, software tools, and writing clear reports.
• A team player who can manage projects, costs, and risks while keeping everything on track.
