Position Summary: The Material Manager is responsible for material management, vendor management, process management, and aids in cost management at the Home Building Facility. The Material Manager plans, organizes, coordinates, controls, and supervises the purchasing department, warehouse, and inventory control activities and works closely with the manufacturing teams to establish scheduling and planning requirements. This requires working with other departments at the facility including Engineering, Production, Service, Sales, as well as working collaboratively with Home office teams (procurement, accounting, etc..). The Material Manager reports directly to the General Manager of the HBF with a dotted line report into the Home Office material’s department. This position is responsible for effective execution of the job responsibilities below:
Duties / Responsibilities:
Lead, manage, & develop the department
Work and communicate collaboratively with the rest of the facility leadership team & Home Office
Facilitate a culture that is focused on the safety, team member experience and customer experience
Must comply, honor, and operate under existing supplier contracts and company SOP’s
Negotiate pricing with non-contract suppliers
Manage Oracle Supply Chain and Manufacturing modules to improve business processes
Manage the cycle count process to accurately update inventory quantities
Ability to root-cause inventory variances and perform corrective actions, accordingly
Manage and maintain the accuracies of inventory within the ERP system:
Queries and views items in the ERP system
Manages and analyzes Demand and Supply Plans
Utilize demand analysis and other forecasting methods to accurately forecast component needs
Configures and manages planning set up, data collection and order promising
Manages data collection processes and verifies collected data
Manages items used in Demand and Supply Plans
Operate and order within the defined supply terms (lead time, minimum order quantity, delivery, etc.)
Work independently on assigned projects and tasks, effectively using other resources as needed
Optimize on hand inventory to balance cost efficiencies while maintaining material for production needs
Work with suppliers and other departments to eliminate waste & improve efficiency
Holds suppliers accountable to quality and performance standards
Manage, update, and maintain the organization of the inventory warehouse
Manage the vendor performance Issue Resolution process
Collaborate with other departments to ensure:
Material is being scanned in and out of proper locations or sub-inventories
The accuracy of material backflush locations is being met
Proper rotation of inventory (FIFO)
Management and recording of Damaged, Slow Moving, & Obsolete Material
Management of scrap materials and scrap material sales
Manage the item creation and item enablement process Lead and develop direct reports using KPI’s and performance reviews, to ensure proper communication and compliance with all company guidelines
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
4-year degree in Supply Chain operations, Industrial Engineering, or similar related material experience required
3 year’s leadership experience in manufacturing Materials Management and/or Supply Chain management experience (preferred)
Experience working on high impact cross-functional teams
Excellent communication and leadership abilities
Experience working with all levels of the organization, both technical and non-technical
Detail oriented with strong documentation and interpersonal skills
Strong analytical & problem-solving skills
Experience and commitment to Lean principles
Experience and knowledge of ERP systems and concepts (greatly desired)
Familiarity with computer systems and Microsoft Office applications
Knowledge of raw material planning, production processes, quality control, cost management, and inventory management (required)
Physical Demands:
Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
Work may require stooping, bending, crouching, crawling, pushing, and / or pulling.
Must be able to communicate with others via phone, email, and in person. Must be able to exchange accurate information with others.
Work environment is not temperature controlled and may result in exposure to extreme temperatures.
Work primarily involves sitting / standing, up to 4 hours at a time.
Travel Requirements:
Less than 5%
