POSITION SUMMARY
This position will provide support for Alaska Communications Sales teams. The Solutions Engineer, at the Sr level and below, will have a key role in developing and maintaining strategic account relationships that are vital to Alaska Communications' success in the Enterprise Data market and achieving the Company's revenue and EBITDA goals. This position will provide support for all Alaska Communications Sales teams and will have a key role in developing cloud, hosted and on-premises IT solutions for business customers as well as provide technical sales support for advanced data network solutions. The primary focus is on LAN network with an understanding of WAN networking to facilitate collaboration to develop a holistic solution for our customers.
Additionally, the Senior level typically performs specific tasks and will be assigned projects characterized by greater complexity and sensitivity and having more impact on the organization. The Senior Level is expected to act as a resource base for peers, provide mentoring and assume a more proactive role in improving operations to meet the Company's objectives.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Interact and work closely with stakeholders, Sales Managers and Sales teams to actively participate in sales calls and processes to help qualify and prioritize sales opportunities as well as assist and participate in customer meetings and presentations.
Respond to requests for technical sales consultation. Provide specialized support to the Sales team by providing technical expertise, written technical proposal documents for customers, network design documents, and guidance in the planning and closing of sales opportunities, as well as prepare and deliver customer presentations to technical and executive audiences. Effectively manage workload and priorities to provide quality pre-and post-sales technical support to the sales organization in a timely and accurate manner. Assist the Company in acquiring and retaining loyal customers by anticipating and exceeding their expectations driven by a commitment to customer service.
Interact with other departments including Network Engineering, Facilities, Legal, and so forth as necessary to assist Sales in solution design.
Provides client service directly when required, and reflects the client urgency when responding to direct customer inquiries and requests.
Actively maintain technical competence through the achievement of sales and technical certifications in the solutions sets used by Alaska Communications.
Provide post-sales support by developing and providing clear, accurate and comprehensive Scope of Work documents and designs that can be used as input to customer proposals and / or RFP responses and provide necessary detail and expectations to ensure an effective hand-off to the implementation team and order processing.
Provide support to Product Development and Process Improvement Teams as requested. Make recommendations to the Product teams on new products or product enhancements that could enable Alaska Communications to better serve customer requirements and / or position Alaska Communications in a competitive advantage.
The Sr. Solutions Engineer will need an understanding of basic project management skills and be able to communicate the implementation processes of complex networks to a customer.
The Sr. Solutions Engineer will act as a mentor to Associate Solution Engineers, Solution Engineers and Sales team members on Alaska Communications products / services and network architecture.
The Sr. Solutions Engineer assists staffing coordinators to define project team requirements for projects in the solution area.
The Sr. Solutions Engineer works with internal service teams to establish professional development needs for practitioners in the solution area.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Education : Bachelor’s degree, in engineering, computer science, business, marketing, telecommunications or related field and / or relevant industry certifications. Equivalent education, experience, and training may be substituted for the degree requirement.
Experience : Four years of sales and / or engineering experience, preferably in a telecommunications provider or telecom vendor environment. Must have demonstrable experience with current and emerging telecommunications technologies.
Preferred Experience : Six years of sales and / or engineering experience, of which at least three years involved supporting network architecture in a pre- or post-sales engineering capacity and at least two involved sales or providing sales support that involved direct contact with customers.
Experience in a telecommunications provider or telecom vendor environment. Experience that resulted in demonstrable expertise with current and emerging telecommunications technologies and associated protocols, to include Layer2 or Layer3 services, Metro Ethernet, VPNs, Frame Relay, DSL, IP, MPLS, VPLS, Satellite, VoIP, IP Telephony, SIP, CoS, QoS technologies, and the OSI model.
Certifications and Licenses : Industry specific certifications and licenses.
Computer Skills : Demonstrate proficiency working with software essential to the job, including Microsoft Teams, Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint. Candidate must be proficient in Visio design software and PowerPoint presentations.
