PAY RATE: Starting at $22.70 per hour SCHEDULE: Typical schedule is Mon-Fri 9am-5pm; open availability and flexibility needed during first few months of operation and opening of the pub. LOCATION: Goose Island Pub – 1221 W Blackhawk St. COMPANY: Since 1988, Goose Island Beer Co., Chicago's original craft brewery, has been shaping the craft beer scene here in Chicago and beyond. In the spring of 2024, we will be opening our new brewpub location next to the Salt Shed – an exciting waterfront dining and entertainment destination. The Goose Island Pub at the Salt Shed will offer a unique beer and culinary experience with a skyline-backed riverfront patio, alongside Chicago's best new music venue, which hosts 200 concerts and events each year. ROLE SUMMARY: The Assistant Pub Brewer reports directly to the Pub Head Brewer and is responsible for assisting with all aspects of brewery operations and beer program at Goose Island Pub. The focus is on maintaining cleanliness, quality, and consistent operation. The brewer should meet the requirements of the job description, be ready to learn, grow, and approach daily tasks with a positive attitude. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Daily Brewery Operations Brewing and finishing beer for service at the Goose Island Pub, maintain brewery equipment and a clean environment. Ensure timely completion of production goals as set forth by Head Brewer across all brewing operations; with an initial focus on cleaning & filling kegs, maintaining draught beer systems, hot side wort production and all cellar related activities. Cleaning and maintenance of brewery & brewhouse equipment. Assist with inventory management of beer in process, beer in package and raw materials. Budget and Cost Control Take weekly and monthly inventories and provide weekly racking reports. Tours and Events Act as a brand ambassador for Goose Island at internal and external events. Execute brewery tours, on-site and off-site beer events as scheduled by management team. Assist with training new tour guides. Execute on-site special events including but not limited to: Beer Dinners, Tastings, and Festivals. Execute off-site special events as needed/scheduled by management team. Set-up and breakdown as required for event (set up jockey boxes, transport materials, load-in/out of product, etc.) Education Teach staff and customers about Goose Island Beer Company history and products and provide general beer knowledge and culture. Establish and promote Goose Island culture both inside and outside of the pub. Share knowledge and insight with staff and customers. JOB QUALIFICATIONS: 1-2 years brewing experience required. High school diploma or equivalent. Formal brewing education or certification a plus. Proficiency with Microsoft Office. Adhere to company polices for safety and follow best practices. Must possess a valid driver’s license. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Job requires the ability to frequently stand, walk, use hands to feel objects and tools, reach, crawl, kneel, hear, and communicate. Ability to frequently lift and/or move 55 pounds. Ability to organize and maneuver full kegs weighing up to 165 pounds.
