Arch Insurance Group, US is looking for a senior underwriting professional to work for our Middle Market Umbrella & Excess (MMU&E) team reporting to the Head of MMU&E. This team-oriented individual will be hired to execute an existing business plan for Excess Casualty focusing on unsupported new and renewal business produced and serviced by retail brokers based out of our South Zone. The role will involve coordinating and collaborating with the other Arch units including Claims, Distribution and Actuarial teams. The position will be based out of our Alpharetta, GA office and will be responsible for leading and developing a team of 6-7 Excess Casualty Underwriters with a wide range of experience.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES:
- Effectively execute against the established business plan for MMU&E to drive the production and profitability for the selected business.
- Recruit, retain and manage a team of underwriters by developing their skills through various training and mentoring initiatives.
- Ensure that the team complies with and adheres to all existing underwriting guidelines, pricing initiatives and authorities for selected classes of US based Excess Casualty business derived exclusively from the retail brokers who service this business.
- Drive continuous improvements in underwriter productivity by maintaining effective relationships with our clients and distribution partners.
- Work closely with our Claims group to ensure that the products are performing as designed and that we have a ground-up view of the loss scenarios and take appropriate remediation action if required.
- Drive a culture that promotes collaboration, diversity, and inclusion.
- Stay appraised of changing market conditions to both seize opportunities and/or minimize risk in alignment with profitability goals.
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
- 10 years relevant work experience in the US focused on Excess Casualty.
- Must have the requisite knowledge and skills to utilize pricing tools, data sets and underwriting authority to make informed decisions leading to profitable results.
- Previous Leadership or Management experience preferred
- Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Business, Economic or Law.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Effective problem-solver
- Willingness to travel and meet brokers, insureds, employees, and stakeholders in the business.
- Works well in a team focused environment
- Able to work independently with minimal guidance.
- Detail oriented with the ability to multi-task and prioritize workload.

Total individual compensation (base salary, short & long-term incentives) offered will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to geographic location, scope & responsibilities of the role, qualifications, talent availability & specialization as well as business needs. The above pay range may be modified in the future.
