income, formerly homeless, veterans, recently released from incarceration, LGBTQ; or with special physical, cognitive, or developmental needs, the 163rd Street Improvement Council offers resources, referrals, and direct services to help.

The Company:
Created in 1965, the 163rd Street Improvement Council, Inc. (or the Council, as we like to call it) involved itself in the fight against community deprivation of resources in the South Bronx. Determined to make a difference in the lives of the residents, the Council began to create affordable housing in the community. Pioneers in the Bronx for housing and human service programs, we offer the special needs, homeless, and low-income populations an array of support services. We have become a source of Strength, Support, and Stability for those on the journey from homelessness to fully appropriate
housing. Our approach is unique and innovative. We provide a continuum of care, including a range of transitional, congregate, and other residential programs.
The Role:
Under the supervision of the Director of Operations, the dual role of Driver/Residential Aide will be the primary connection between the operations staff and the clients. The residential aide will spend a large amount of time with the residents. They will spend this time helping clients who need more hands-on assistance. They will also provide insight into the current atmosphere in the facility and what are the current client complaints or recommendations.
Specific Requirements:
This is a full-time shift position scheduled between the hours of 7 am-3 pm. Staff may be asked

Duties and Responsibilities:
Drive agency vehicle to specified locations as assigned by supervisor for the purpose of picking up or dropping off passengers for program activities
Complete errands with an agency vehicle for the purpose of picking up supplies or delivering items at/to various locations
Perform vehicle maintenance monthly, including cleaning the vehicle inside and out, checking the oil, brake, and transmission fluids
Maintain accurate and up-to-date travel log
Notify the supervisor of vehicle maintenance problems as they arise
Fill the vehicle with gas when needed
Assist with safe handling and proper temperature control of prepared foods
Assist with proper functioning and cleaning of kitchen and kitchen equipment, dining areas, and adherence to sanitation standards
Assist with packaging and delivery of meals to satellite offices
Maintain food usage records and assist in taking monthly inventory
Attend relevant 163 rd Street Improvement Council and outside training
Assist with weighing in, receiving, and properly storage of food
Document all residents, staff, and visitors entering and exiting the building; complete census forms, report all incidents and log all events in the Facility Logbook.
Facilitate resident new admissions and move-outs.
Record all daily census reports in the CARES system.
Generate and submit nightly rosters to funding sources.
File all paperwork relating to shift coverage.
Performs the day-to-day monitoring of the residents’ on-site activities
Performs hourly inspections of the facility and immediate neighborhood, and documents/reports any incidents
Assists in the planning and organization of recreational activities, events, and outings.
Wakes the clients as needed, provides clothing and personal care items to clients
Ensures that the clients are out of the dormitories according to policies and procedures
Reminds clients of their daily schedules, and assists clients with their daily living skills
Processes new client intake information, and bed assignment maintains the daily census
records, and provides DHS with daily census figures.
Secures the clients’ personal property and maintains an inventory of the client’s belongings
Essential Skills and Qualifications:
● High school diploma or equivalent;
● Minimum of 2 years of experience in an administrative or office support role.
● Bilingual (English, Spanish) a plus
● Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
RA/Driver - Job Description
● Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Valid driver’s license from the state in which the bearer resides with no reported traffic violations for the previous 18 months and no more than 3 points reported within the last 3 years
Experience driving vans and oversized vehicles
Experience reading maps and a good knowledge of the New York City highway system
Engaging personality and orientated skills are essential
Strong oral and written communication, time management, and organizational skills are necessary
Ability to lift, pull, push, and/or move a minimum of 60 pounds
Ability to sit for long periods
Ability to climb five flights of stairs
Ability to bend and retrieve objects and/or documents

Working Environment:
This position will be held in a professional office. This position routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines. This position is subject to travel.
