Do you want to teach children how to make soaps, natural beauty products, and candles? 1870 Farm is looking for an apothecary program specialist to create activities, lead, engage and inspire children ages 5-15. 1870 Farm is a 17 acre farm that was created as a free-range paradise for children where they can hang out with chickens, befriend a goat or two, pan for sparkling gemstones, get dirty in the gardens, fish for bass, and so much more! We run 9 weeks of summer day camp each summer across our farm, with activities ranging from farm animal care and handling, gardening, cooking, and outdoor skills. A successful apothecary specialist is able to help campers explore the idea of creating herbal goods.
Qualifications and Experience of a Successful Specialist:
- At least 20 years of age
- Previous experience attending or working in a camp / child care setting
- Comfortable working in an outdoor / farm setting with animals
- An ability to planapothecary activities, conduct these activities safely, and work on a team.
- Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, be creative, open-minded, and flexibility
- Have reliable daily transportation to and from camp (1870 Farm in Chapel Hill)
Responsibilities
- Plan and facilitate high-quality and engaging apothecary activities
- Ensure all necessary materials and supplies are available and prepared in advance.
- Track and monitor program supplies, ensuring they are used properly and efficiently; monitor the usage and storage of materials that may pose safety risks.
- In partnership with Summer Camp Counselors, manage behaviors and a positive learning environment.
- Help other counselors supervise campers’ participation in apothecary activities, and are an active part of the planned activities
- Complete morning set-up and afternoon clean-up of camp areas
- Ensuring the safety of children, staff, visitors and animals
- Providing emergency medical care if needed (First Aid and CPR training are provided as part of staff training)

Pay: $16.00 - $20.00 per hour
