Human Resources Payroll and Systems Specialist
Yorktown - Virginia
1st Advantage Federal Credit Union is currently seeking a full time Human Resources Payroll and Systems Specialist to support our Human Resources Department. Scheduled hours will be 40 hours per week between the hours of 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
The Human Resources Payroll and Systems Specialist is responsible for supporting HR generalist functions, as well as administering the payroll and various HRIS specialty functions. The focus of this role is providing excellent internal customer service and supporting initiatives and programs that will drive the strategic direction of the HR function. The Human Resources Payroll and Systems Specialist must be skilled at and enjoy supporting and sometimes leading various Human Resources projects.

Human Resources Payroll and Systems Specialist Essential Functions & Responsibilities

  • Processes payroll to include timecard management, payroll submittal and accurate reconciliation of the payroll. Creates and processes all required reporting.
  • Administers the various HR information systems:
    • Ensures data integrity and efficient processing of HR information as well as troubleshooting, auditing, and systems maintenance.
    • Oversees and maintains optimal function of the HRIS, which may include installation, customization, development, maintenance, and upgrade to applications, systems, and modules.
    • Provides technical support, troubleshooting, and guidance to HRIS users.
    • Collaborates with leadership, IT, and HR staff to identify system improvements and enhancements; recommends and implements solutions.
    • Oversees permissions, access, personalization, and similar system operations and settings for HRIS users.
    • Serves as key representative and liaison between HR, information services, external vendors, and other stakeholders for HRIS design and implementation projects.
  • Supports various human resources functions within the organization. Contributes to the overall effectiveness of the HR department by providing both strategic and operational support. Answers general HR questions from colleagues. Communicates with colleagues and other parties by responding to e-mails, phone calls, Service Desk, and other informational requests.
  • Conduct training sessions in various formats, including in-person and virtual, to educate both colleagues and leaders on the functionalities of our payroll and HR systems.
  • Coordinates and conducts new hire processes, to include onboarding paperwork and new hire orientation. Processes all new hire information within appropriate systems.
  • Compiles or assists with the acquisition of complex data reports, summaries, and logs for HR team and other departments. Ensures accuracy of the reports and submits timely in compliance with audit schedules.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Performance Measurement

  • Proficiently complete the payroll process within all established timelines ensuring minimal errors and omissions. Keep up to date and comply with all federal and state wage rules such as FLSA.
  • Administer the organization's various HRIS systems by ensuring the accurate and efficient use of HR technology.
  • Provide informed professional assistance to others in the organization as requested.
  • Effectively communicate with employees and others in and outside our organization by person, phone, letter, and email.
  • Accurately maintain and provide in a timely manner human resource reports as requested, and assigned year-end HR reporting.

Qualifications:

Experience Five years to eight years of similar or related experience.

Education A Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Law, Business Administration or a related field required.

Interpersonal Skills Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the organization for the purpose of first-level conflict resolution, building relationships, and soliciting cooperation. Discussions involve a higher degree of confidentiality and discretion, requiring diplomacy and tact in communication.

  • Outstanding skills in providing HR operational support and collaboration with all levels of an organization.
  • Knowledge of employment laws, regulations, and practices.
  • Ability to make recommendations to effectively resolve problems or issues, by using judgement that is consistent with standards, practices, policies, procedures, regulations, or law.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, interpersonal, organizational, and planning/implementation skills.
  • Ability to research, analyze, and interpret varied data and information.
  • Highly adept at workload and project coordination/management. Strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent skills in Microsoft Office or other standard office and/or other business software.
  • Proficiency with HRIS, payroll, talent and/or performance management software.
  • Skills in database management and recordkeeping.
  • Proficiency in internet and computer use.

Physical Requirements

Talking - Effective verbal communication to convey and acknowledge receiving detailed or important instructions, accurately, loudly, or quickly.

Average Hearing - Able to hear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information to communicate effectively.

Finger Dexterity - Using primarily just the fingers to make small movements such as typing, picking up small objects or pinching fingers together to use office equipment such as phones, computers, scanners, and other office machinery.

Repetitive Motion - Movements frequently and regularly required using the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.

Average Visual Abilities - Average, ordinary visual acuity necessary to prepare or inspect documents, read email and computer screens, and operate office machinery.

Physical Strength - Sedentary work; sitting at a desk or workstation a majority of work hours. Exerts up to 25lbs. of force occasionally and required to lift up to 25lbs.

Reaching and Stretching - Reaching and stretching, below the shoulders, to access files, checks, documents, or office equipment on and across shelves, counter, and desks.
