Established in May 1983, Con-Tek Machine has over 40 years of experience designing and building custom equipment for polyurethane and reaction injection molding applications for almost all the major appliance, commercial food equipment, and HVAC manufacturers in the United States. Refrigeration equipment behind the bar at your favorite establishment, in the kitchen of your go-to restaurant, or chilling the selection of food at your local grocery store was likely made using their equipment.

Their customers rely on our client to design and manufacture custom equipment that not only effectively and efficiently manages their products during a key phase of the manufacturing cycle but is also dependable for decades.

Position

The Shop Foreman plays a pivotal role in overseeing and coordinating the daily operations of our client’s manufacturing facility. This position requires a skilled leader with a strong technical background, exceptional organizational abilities, and a commitment to maintaining high standards of productivity, safety, and quality. The Shop Foreman plays a critical role in driving productivity, maintaining quality standards, and fostering a culture of safety and teamwork within the organization.

You will be responsible for implementing culture change, restructuring the team as needed, implementing best practices for your position, implementing processes to streamline production, optimizing processes for maximum efficiency, improving job profitability, staying current with market trends, and improving our existing processes and systems.

Responsibilities

  • Production:
  • Directly oversee a team of technicians, mechanics, or manufacturing workers, providing guidance, training, and support to ensure efficient workflow and adherence to schedules.
  • Allocate tasks and projects to team members based on skill levels, workload, and deadlines. Coordinate closely with other departments such as production planning, maintenance, and quality control to optimize efficiency and meet production targets.
  • Responsible for maintaining daily, weekly, and monthly production schedule and assigning work for shop employees.
  • Communicate closely with project managers, technical services, and field employees.
  • Ensure job timelines and deadlines are met.
  • Maintain, evaluate, and suggest methods of improving equipment, processes, efficiency, or operating conditions.
  • Establish method of quality assurance with regular evaluations, and annual review for compliance and improvement. Enforce quality standards and procedures to ensure that all products or services meet or exceed customer expectations. Conduct regular inspections and implement corrective actions as necessary to address any deficiencies.
  • Assist production workers to meet deadlines, as needed.
  • Document information and conversations relevant to projects.
  • Follow paperwork flow and procedures.
  • Performance reporting and analysis
  • Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual production metrics, including employee utilization and job profitability.
  • Develop lead and lag key performance indicators (KPIs). Provide timely and accurate reports to management on KPIs.
  • Monitor and interpret KPIs to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Shop Environment
  • Maintain shop to provide a clean and safe working environment.
  • Monitor inventory levels of materials, parts, and supplies, and coordinate with procurement or purchasing departments to replenish stock as needed. Implement inventory control measures to minimize waste and optimize storage space.
  • Oversee the maintenance and repair of machinery, tools, and equipment to ensure optimal performance and longevity. Schedule routine maintenance tasks and coordinate with maintenance staff to minimize downtime.
  • Research new products and tools associated with welding, fabrication and assembly.
  • Shipping and Receiving
  • Coordinate the shipping and receiving of materials, parts, or products.
  • Evaluate shipping and receiving processes for efficiency.
  • Human Resources (HR) Oversight:
  • Recruit, hire and train employees.
  • Identify training needs within the team and develop training programs or initiatives to enhance skills and knowledge. Provide ongoing coaching and feedback to promote professional growth and performance improvement.
  • Administer performance evaluations for direct reports.
  • Ensure HR policies and procedures are complied with across direct reports.
  • Compliance and Risk Management:
  • Ensure compliance with relevant manufacturing standards and regulations (OSHA, hazardous waste, etc).
  • Observe all safety rules, applicable regulations, and relevant ISO standards.
  • Enforce company safety policy and ensure shop is up to date with current safety training and regulations.
  • Maintain a safe working environment by enforcing safety regulations, conducting regular safety meetings, and promoting awareness among staff members. Investigate accidents or incidents and implement preventive measures to minimize risks.
  • General
  • Attend meetings, as requested, to keep informed on matters that affect the successful performance of his/her job, and of the status of the company as a whole.
  • Demonstrate good judgment in reporting and resolving problems that arise. Assist in developing and implementing corrective actions.
  • Perform additional duties as directed by manager
  • Work additional hours necessary to meet deadlines as directed by manager.

Qualifications

  • At least 5 years’ experience as a Shop Foreman.
  • Ability to operate forklift.
  • Must be a team worker.
  • Time management and organization skills.
  • Problem solving skills.
  • Judgment and decision-making skills.
  • Oral and written communication skills.
  • Leadership skills and experience.
  • Proficient at reading blueprints.
  • Ability to work without close supervision.
  • Math skills.

  • Strong attention to quality and detail.
  • Experience identifying and creating processes to drive efficiencies and improve accuracy.
  • Experience performing and managing HR functions for direct reports.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Must be computer literate and current on new technology. (i.e. Microsoft office)
  • Proven skills and proficiency in Windows and Microsoft Office (including Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint).

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $85,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year

Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift
