JOB DESCRIPTION
DEPARTMENT: Court Administrator’s Office (311)
CLASS TITLE: Paralegal
SALARY RANGE: $39,806 Bachelors Degree
$45,604 Master’s Degree
REPORTS TO: Judges assigned to the Family Court
CLASS DEFINITION:
Under the supervision of the Judges assigned to the Family Court (currently Divisions
13,14,15, and 16 performs a wide variety of duties to facilitate case flow. Case types
may include but are not limited to dissolutions, motions to modify, family access motions,
paternity, contempt child support and adult abuse actions. Performs docket control
scheduling, file review for pertinent information, maintains case logs to ensure
appropriate case tracking and reporting, schedules attorneys for various docket settings,
attends trials and hearings and drafts proposed orders, reviews and makes available to
the court circuit clerk files that are related to the case and monitors time standards.
JOB DUTIES:
- Dockets each case for all appropriate settings.
- Reviews each case to determine if child custody or visitation is at issue.
- Reviews each case to determine if service has been obtained, an answer has
- Contacts counsel to follow-up on outstanding items.
- Logs all cases upon filing.
- Logs the current status for each case, including the next docket date.
- Prepares reports through COGNOS and distributes reports to Judges in Divisions
- Closes out cases as appropriate including review of disposition records for
- Contacts counsel to arrange for scheduling conferences, pre-trial hearings, etc.
- Contacts various departments in the Circuit Clerk’s Office to assess case status
by phone or in person.
- Coordinates with Domestic Relations Unit regarding mediation and visitation
- Coordinates with service providers (drug counseling, parenting classes,
employment specialist, law school clinics, etc.) to ensure compliance with court
orders.
- Coordinates with vendors regarding attendance at parent education classes.
- Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Some knowledge of statutes governing Domestic Relations cases in Missouri
- Thorough knowledge of Local Court Rules regarding Domestic Relations cases.
- Knowledge of word processing, spread sheets and Access database is desired.
