One of our small marketing/comms agency clients is looking for an Accounting Manager to join their team for a full-time position.
This Accounting Manager will be reporting to and partnering with the agency's CFO (part-time) and leadership/client service teams, ultimately responsible for all of the agency's financial/accounting operations and day-to-day business needs, managing some HR functions, and leading the development of the agency's financial/HR infrastructure and processes to support scaling business needs.
The Accounting Manager must be comfortable and have experience leading accounting operations for a small business, ideally another marketing/comms agency or professional services organization, as well as be excited to have autonomy over the day-to-day operations and comfortable working independently as a 1-person team.
Ideal Accounting Manager candidates will have:
- BA/MA degree in accounting/business
- At least 7-10 years of financial accounting experience in a professional services company
- Knowledge of GAAP accounting principles and procedures
- Project accounting experience including working with government contracts
- Fully proficient with Excel and able to execute analytical functions such as VLOOKUP, Pivot Tables, and Charting
- Experience managing the day-to-day accounting processes in a small-business environment including paying vendors, billing clients, managing the general ledger, and preparing the month end/year-end close
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Superb attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
- Knowledge and experience designing, building, and implementing policies, procedures, and sound systems of internal control
- Experience researching technical accounting and regulatory issues and working with external partners to conclude and document positions
- Leadership and management skills, including the ability to manage personnel and projects while utilizing a broad range of company resources in an efficient manner. Hands-on leader with proven management experience.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and manage competing priorities
Nice to have:
- Public accounting experience
- Credentials as a certified CPA, CMA, or CGMA strongly preferred
- Experience with Workamajig project management and accounting software preferred
