Summary
Manage the accounting function for a large manufacturing operation in the cement industry. Responsible for ensuring accurate financial reporting. Must maintain and ensure team compliance with company policies and applicable accounting standards, including internal controls. The Controller should possess knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and the Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX).
General Description
Planning, directing and coordinating all accounting operational functions
Managing the accumulation and consolidation of all financial data necessary for an accurate accounting of consolidated business results
Coordinating and preparing internal financial statements
Coordinating activities of internal and external auditors
Providing management with information vital to the decision-making process
Owner of the trial balance, ensuring timely completion and accuracy of monthly account reconciliations
Assessing current accounting operations, offering recommendations for improvement and implementing new processes
Developing and monitoring business performance metrics
Hiring, developing and retaining skilled accounting staff
Perform additional duties as assigned
Supervisory Responsibility
Responsible for day to management of the accounting team
Work Experience
7 years of progressive accounting experience
Full cycle A/P
ERP a plus
Proven ability to work in a cross functional environment while leading and driving complex initiatives.
Education
Degree – 4-year accounting degree required
Certification – CPA desirable, but not required
Skills
Customer Service — Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services with a high energy level. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
Clerical — Strong attention to detail. Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, designing forms, and other office procedures and terminology.
Mathematics — Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications.
Accounting — Knowledge of accounting principles and practices, the financial markets, banking and the analysis and reporting of financial data. Strong investigative and follow-up skill.
English Language — Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar. Ability to communicate verbally and in writing
Discretion – Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
Management and Organizational skills – Outstanding time management with the ability to prioritize competing projects. A team player willing to lead the team to meet deadlines and get the job done.
