Job/Position Summary
The Quality Engineer plays a critical role in ensuring the highest standards of product quality and process integrity within a fast-paced semiconductor manufacturing environment. This position is responsible for maintaining and improving quality systems, driving root cause analysis, supporting yield improvements, ensuring compliance with customer and regulatory requirements, and collaborating cross-functionally with engineering, operations, and supply chain teams.
Primary Responsibilities
1. Quality Systems and Compliance:
• Maintain and improve the site’s AS9100 quality management system (QMS).
• Ensure compliance with applicable industry standards, customer specifications, and internal policies.
• Lead internal and external audits (AS9100, customer, regulatory), and ensure timely closure of corrective actions.
• Develop and maintain control plans, PFMEAs, and process flow diagrams.
2. Product and Process Quality:
• Review product specifications, process controls, and test protocols to ensure compliance with customer requirements.
• Perform statistical analysis of production data to identify trends, outliers, and opportunities for improvement.
• Monitor critical quality metrics and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
• Support equipment qualification, process validation, and new product introduction (NPI) efforts.
3. Root Cause Analysis and Problem Solving:
• Lead investigations into nonconformances, customer complaints, and internal quality issues using structured methodologies (8D, 5 Whys, Ishikawa/Fishbone, DMAIC).
• Develop and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs) with measurable outcomes.
• Perform risk assessments and implement control measures to mitigate recurrence of quality issues.
4. Documentation and Reporting:
• Generate and maintain comprehensive documentation, including inspection procedures, control charts, quality reports, deviation notices, and audit records.
• Provide detailed reports to stakeholders, including failure analysis, material reviews, and corrective action effectiveness assessments.
5. Supplier and Customer Interaction:
• Collaborate with suppliers to resolve material issues, qualify components, and conduct supplier audits as needed.
• Interface with customers to communicate quality performance, corrective actions, and improvement plans.
• Support material disposition through MRB processes and coordinate with supply chain for disposition of nonconforming materials.
6. Cross-Functional Collaboration:
• Work closely with R&D, Process Engineering, Manufacturing, and Equipment teams to ensure design for manufacturability and robust process control.
• Participate in cross-functional teams for process improvement, lean initiatives, and design reviews.
Requirements
• Requires a bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent.
• 3 years of experience in a quality engineering role within the semiconductor/electronics industry or 5 years of experience in a quality manufacturing setting.
• Solid understanding of semiconductor manufacturing processes (e.g., photolithography, deposition, etching, wafer inspection, dicing, packaging).
• Experience with statistical process control (SPC), Minitab or JMP, and Six Sigma methodology.
• Familiarity with cleanroom protocols and ESD controls.
• Strong working knowledge of AS9100.
• Experience conducting internal/external audits and managing CAPAs.
• This position will require lawful access to ITAR/EAR controlled information and employees in these roles will need to meet those requirements. Requirements include US Citizenship, US Permanent Resident, or ability to meet contract-specific licensure requirements.
• Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), Six Sigma Green/Black Belt, or Lean certification preferred.
• Experience in wafer fabrication (front-end) or advanced packaging (back-end) a plus.
• Knowledge of industry-specific requirements (e.g., automotive AEC-Q100, military MIL-STD, or aerospace standards) preferred.
• Proficiency in quality tools: FMEA, Control Plans, Gage R&R, PPAP, APQP a plus.
• Experience working with MES and ERP systems preferred.
