Job OverviewWe are seeking a seasoned Senior Database & Data Architect with principal-level experience to join our innovative IT organization. This full-time role will lead the design, architecture, and strategic implementation of database systems, focusing on high availability (HA), disaster recovery (DR), and scalability to support our business objectives. The ideal candidate brings 10 years of deep expertise in database architecture, administration, and cloud technologies, with a proven track record in MSSQL, MySQL, PostgreSQL, and AWS RDS. Proficiency in Windows and Linux administration is essential, as is the ability to craft robust, forward-thinking data solutions. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to shape our data strategy, mentor engineers, and ensure our database infrastructure aligns with long-term organizational goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Architect and design strategic database solutions using MSSQL Server, MySQL Server, and PostgreSQL Server, emphasizing high availability, disaster recovery, and scalability.
- Lead the implementation of AWS RDS for multiple database platforms, ensuring optimal configuration, performance, and resilience in cloud environments.
- Develop and execute comprehensive HA and DR strategies, including failover mechanisms, replication, and backup/recovery processes, to minimize downtime and data loss.
- Leverage advanced Azure and AWS expertise to design cloud-native database architectures that integrate seamlessly with broader infrastructure and business needs.
- Provide principal-level guidance on performance troubleshooting and optimization for MSSQL, MySQL, and PostgreSQL databases, resolving complex issues with strategic insight.
- Oversee the administration and optimization of Windows and Linux server environments hosting database systems, ensuring stability and security.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to define data architecture standards, policies, and best practices that drive efficiency, reliability, and innovation.
- Mentor and guide technical teams on database design, cloud adoption, and system administration, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
- Expertise to Oracle EBS environments, advising on architecture and integration as needed.
- Document architectural designs, strategic plans, and operational processes to support knowledge sharing and compliance.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Experience: 10 years of principal-level experience in database architecture, data engineering, or related roles, with a focus on strategic design and implementation.
- MSSQL Server Architecture: Expert-level skills in designing and administering MSSQL Server environments for HA and DR.
- MySQL Server Architecture: Proven expertise in architecting MySQL solutions with a focus on performance, scalability, and resilience.
- PostgreSQL Server Architecture: Deep experience designing and managing PostgreSQL databases for enterprise-grade reliability and recovery.
- AWS RDS Expertise: Extensive experience architecting and managing multiple database types (MSSQL, MySQL, PostgreSQL) within AWS RDS for optimal HA and DR.
- Azure and AWS Proficiency: Advanced knowledge of Azure Services, AWS services (e.g., EC2, S3, CloudWatch, Route 53) and their application in data architecture—AWS experience is mandatory.
- Performance Troubleshooting: Strategic expertise in diagnosing and optimizing database performance across MSSQL, MySQL, and PostgreSQL—essential for this role.
- Windows Administration: Minimum of 5 years of experience architecting and administering Windows Server environments, with a focus on database hosting mandatory.
- Linux Administration: Minimum of 5 years of experience architecting and administering Linux server environments (e.g., Ubuntu, CentOS, RHEL) for database systems mandatory.
- High Availability & Disaster Recovery: Demonstrated success in designing and implementing HA/DR solutions, including clustering, replication, and recovery planning.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Exceptional problem-solving skills, strategic thinking, and the ability to lead in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication skills to articulate complex technical concepts to technical and executive audiences.
- Oracle EBS Experience: Familiarity with Oracle E-Business Suite architecture, configuration, or support is a plus.
- Certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect, AWS Certified Database – Specialty, or TOGAF.
- Experience with data modeling, ETL processes, or big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Snowflake).
- Proficiency with infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., Azure DevOps, Terraform, CloudFormation) for database and server automation.
Special Work Conditions
- Sedentary – Involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Some positions may entail exerting up to 15 lbs. of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force to lift, carry, push, or pull.
