Position Responsibilities
- Serve on the 43North leadership team:
- Oversee portfolio management.
- Manage a high-functioning team spanning selection, investor relations, platform, and talent recruitment.
- Act as the primary liaison to the Investment Committee.
- Provide regular updates and deliver actionable memos.
- Present comprehensive investment materials related to selection.
- Ensure alignment with stakeholder priorities and support rigorous decision-making.
- Commit to finding answers to key inquiries posed by founders and their teams.
- Work collaboratively with the selection team:
- Direct the diligence process before competition selection.
- Provide support throughout the selection process.
- Guide founders through the end-to-end process of fundraising.
- Map out and implement the 43North mentorship program to:
- Engage portfolio companies with meaningful and valuable resources.
- Act as the team’s “thought leader”:
- Advise the broader team on best practices.
- Share key insights and knowledge.
- Establish and maintain rapport with founders and fellow 43North co-workers.
- Immerse yourself in each portfolio company’s industry to deeply understand its foundation and nuances.
Position Requirements
- 5 years of direct startup, funding, venture capital, or accelerator management experience required.
- Entrepreneurial empathy to support founders.
- Experience with startup investing and the venture capital fundraising process.
- General understanding of cap tables and legal terminology related to venture capital.
- Executive presence with the ability to:
- Command a room.
- Conduct public speaking.
- Serve as a trusted advisor.
- Ability to build relationships and make connections for founders and their teams at both local and national levels.
- Eagerness to live and work locally in Buffalo, NY, with a passion for the city and its progress.
- Understanding that startups face unique, urgent, and multi-faceted challenges.
- Data-driven mindset with familiarity in data collection tools and methodologies.
- Experience using platforms and reporting tools such as Standard Metrics or Notion.
- A passion for helping early-stage companies reach their vision in Buffalo.
- Proactive and forward-thinking approach to anticipating issues/needs.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to excel in a fast-paced work environment and multitask with high attention to detail.
- Previous people management experience.
- Willingness to travel occasionally for portfolio and recruitment events.
