The Engineer 1 position is an entry-level engineering role responsible for supporting the design, development, and construction of power-related systems. The ideal candidate will have 0–5 years of related experience and hold an accredited bachelor’s degree in engineering. This position involves applying engineering principles, supporting project estimation, and working closely with internal teams and contractors to ensure high-quality design and construction outcomes.
Key Responsibilities

Apply engineering processes, design criteria, and software applications to develop and construct power systems.

Support the preparation of estimates, design options, and construction specifications.

Provide guidance, oversight, and quality assurance reviews of contractors' designs, estimates, and construction packages.

Promote a safe work environment and uphold safety-first principles in all tasks.

Understand and participate in the planning, design, operation, construction, and maintenance processes.

Collaborate with internal departments (design, construction, maintenance) to ensure coordinated efforts.

Follow established design practices, industry standards, and Southern Company work processes.

Assist in the development and enhancement of design standards and criteria.

Support construction and maintenance teams during operations by providing technical input.

Estimate materials and transmit construction packages, including specifications and drawings.
Required Qualifications

Accredited bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or related field).

0–5 years of engineering experience, preferably in a utility, construction, or power generation environment.
