Varsity Football Head Coach

Title:                                     Varsity Football Coach for the 2025-2026 School year

Reports To:                           Athletic Director, Principal, Superintendent

Employment Status:             Part time

Qualifications:                      

1. Valid driver’s license
2. Teacher’s Certificate (preferred)
3. Coaching and administrative abilities.
4. Attendance at a Sports Medicine Credit In-service (preferred)
5. Ability to relate to and inspire young athletes.
6. Knowledge of the care of and for prevention of athletic injuries.
7. Organization skills/resources to enhance the program.
8. Skill in oral presentations.
9. Able to get along with other coaches.
10. Desire to invest time during and out of season.
11. Knowledge of football with emphasis on fundamentals.
12. Knowledge of training and conditioning techniques.
13. Ability to diagnose player deficiencies/prescribe corrective activities.
14. Ability to make minor repairs on equipment.

General Description:             To prepare a football team for interscholastic competition.  Cooperatively works with other coaches.

Essential Functions:

1. Encourage students to participate in the program; select players, and managers.
2. Account for the condition, inventory, distribution, and procurement of all equipment.
3. Account for the procurement and distribution of all medical supplies and equipment.
4. Account for assignment of lockers and the condition of the locker room.
5. Schedule, record, and assist, as needed with physical examinations for all players: Prepare eligibility lists for the AD.  Shall be accountable for all players meeting necessary requirements pertaining to insurance, physical cards, eligible forms, and athletic waivers.
6. Account for the collection of all fees, if any.
7. Instruct and assist players in the care and prevention of injuries; taping techniques.
8. Attend rules interpretation meetings; schedule coaches’ meetings as needed.
9. Instruct players in the proper use of body building equipment, training, and so forth.
10. Prepare outside facilities for all practice sessions.
11. Schedule, plan, and conduct all practice sessions and scrimmages; prepare and distribute play books; hire officials for practice scrimmages (if needed)
12. Shall be accountable for player behavior during practice sessions, meetings, locker room activities, bus trips, and other activities under the auspices of the program.
13. Develop and enforce training rules.
14. Organize filming of all games; present and discuss game films from previous scrimmages; review and evaluate all game films.
15. Schedule and conduct meetings to discuss forthcoming opponents.
16. Attend as many reserve and other inter-district football games as possible.
17. Contribute to public relations by providing information to newspapers, radio and television stations, school newspapers and other school publications.
18. Aid in the selection of assistant coaches; evaluation of same.
19. Correspond with college and university personnel to assist players acquire athletic scholarships.
20. Communicate with classroom teachers (if needed) to determine the achievement level of each player.
21. Participate in Awards Program by distributing awards to the players.
22. Instruct and supervise managers in game and practice preparation.
23. Attend and participate in Athletic Booster Club meetings, if possible.
24. Evaluate players after each game and at the end of the season.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Serves as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings.
2. Helps instill in students the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values.
3. Conducts other duties related to the coach’s duties as assigned by the athletic director and/or superintendent.

This job description in no manner states or implies that these are the only duties and responsibilities to be performed by the position of Varsity Football Coach.  The Varsity Football Coach will be required to follow the instructions and perform the duties required by the athletic director and/or the superintendent of schools.
