Overall Responsibility:
We are seeking a skilled Mortgage Underwriting Trainer to design, implement, and manage training programs that support the development of our underwriting team. This individual will leverage proven instructional design methodologies and adult learning principles to ensure underwriters are equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to assess mortgage applications accurately and in compliance with industry regulations. The ideal candidate will combine deep underwriting expertise with strong technical learning and development skills, such as ADDIE, ROPES, and Bloom's Taxonomy.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and Deliver Training Programs:
- Design training materials using the ADDIE Model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation) to ensure structured and measurable learning outcomes.
- Deliver training sessions using the ROPES instructional method (Review, Overview, Presentation, Exercise, Summary) to engage learners effectively.
- Incorporate Bloom’s Taxonomy to create learning objectives that address various cognitive levels, from knowledge and comprehension to application and evaluation.
- Instructional Design and Delivery:
- Create e-learning modules, job aids, virtual instructor-led trainings, and in-person workshops tailored to underwriting topics, including FHA, VA, and conventional loans.
- Utilize multimedia tools, learning management systems (LMS), and gamification techniques to enhance learner engagement.
- Assessment and Evaluation:
- Develop quizzes, case studies, and practical underwriting scenarios to evaluate trainees’ understanding and application of key concepts.
- Conduct post-training evaluations to measure training effectiveness and make improvements based on feedback.
- Onboarding and Continuous Development:
- Lead comprehensive onboarding programs for new underwriting staff, focusing on software systems, compliance standards, and loan risk assessment.
- Provide ongoing education to address changes in underwriting regulations and company policies.
- Performance and Gap Analysis:
- Conduct needs assessments to identify skill gaps and training requirements within the underwriting team.
- Collaborate with compliance and operations teams to address audit findings through targeted training initiatives.
- Technical and Soft Skills Training:
- Provide training on underwriting software, data analysis tools, and technical processes.
- Deliver workshops on communication, problem-solving, and critical thinking to enhance overall underwriting performance.
- Resource Maintenance:
- Regularly update training materials to reflect regulatory changes, industry trends, and organizational policies.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in finance, business, education, or a related field (preferred).
Certifications in instructional design or learning and development (e.g., CPTD, ATD, or similar) are a plus.
Experience:
3 years of experience in mortgage underwriting (e.g., NQM, FHA, VA, conventional loans).
2 years of experience in learning and development, instructional design, or corporate training.
Skills:
Proficient in instructional design frameworks, such as ADDIE, ROPES, and Bloom's Taxonomy.
Experience using learning management systems (LMS) and e-learning tools like Articulate, Captivate, or similar.
Strong project management skills to oversee training program development and execution.
Ability to design assessments that measure knowledge retention and application.
Exceptional communication, facilitation, and presentation skills.
Familiarity with adult learning theories and methodologies, including experiential and scenario-based learning.
Technical Knowledge:
Knowledge of underwriting software systems and compliance platforms.
Experience incorporating AI tools or analytics into training programs to monitor learner progress and outcomes.
