English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) program We provide free virtual and in-person instruction for English language learners in greater Bostonin collaboration with Jewish Vocational Service (JVS), which has established the standard in Boston for these learning experiences. From 2018 through the end of 2023, we enrolled more than 600 students in the program.
Grab & Go meal program A food preparation and distribution program for people experiencing homelessness and food insecurity in downtown Boston.
Spanish Mass A gathering for the Spanish-speaking community for mass and dinner for immigrants who do not speak English.
Newsletter Includes a weekly spiritual reflection by qualified theologians as well as social justice and event news circulated weekly by email to more than 4,000 followers.
Continual learning opportunities Virtual connection to our subscribers, including increased use of "live" and pre-recorded videos on social media.

PositionOverview
The Director of the ESOL Program provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for the English language program, ensuring its growth, efficiency, and impact. This role focuses on program management, volunteer team coordination, and community outreach, while building relationships with partner organizations to expand program reach and support. While teaching experience is not required, preference will be given to candidates with multi-cultural and multi-lingual backgrounds. This position is primarily remote, with occasional in-person meetings to collaborate with partners and stakeholders and provide adequate support to teachers in the classrooms.

PositionOverview

Key Responsibilities
Program Coordination and Oversight
- Manage the ESOL program’s operations, including two 15-week course cycles per year.
- Maintain regular communication with volunteer teachers, Student Relationship Managers (SRMs), and other program volunteers to ensure smooth program delivery.
- Provide oversight and guidance to volunteer ESOL teachers and tutors, supporting their classroom activities and ensuring alignment with program goals.
- Collaborate with Jewish Vocational Service (JVS) to coordinate curriculum development, student progress tracking, and teacher support, ensuring a productive partnership.
- Partner with the Director of Recruitment to recruit and onboard volunteer ESOL teachers and SRMs.
- Facilitate orientation and training sessions, ensuring all volunteers understand the program’s mission, goals, and teaching approach.
- Organize substitute teacher scheduling as needed to maintain instructional continuity.
- Design and implement strategies to recruit prospective students, working with community partners and utilizing diverse outreach methods.
- Manage student registration and onboarding, ensuring accurate data collection, clear communication of class schedules, and explanation of expectations.
- Ensure effective communication between students, teachers, SRMs, and program leadership to foster collaboration and address concerns promptly.
- Partner closely with JVS to monitor program outcomes and make adjustments to improve student learning experiences and results.
- Oversee the maintenance of academic records, including registration forms, attendance, testing results, and course completions, managed by the ESOL Registrar.
- Expand program reach by increasing the number of students served through recruitment of additional volunteer teachers, tutors, and SRMs.
- Support the ongoing development and refinement of the curriculum in collaboration with JVS to meet evolving student needs.
