What are the responsibilities and job description for the Associate Attorney - Criminal/Traffic/Family Law position at A.G. Linett & Associates, PA?
A.G. Linett & Associates is seeking a new Associate to join their Greensboro, North Carolina law office. We are looking for a candidate that has an interest in District Court trial work, including a criminal and traffic practice and family law civil litigation in primarily in Guilford County and Forsyth County.
Candidates with prior experience experience as a Public Defender or Assistant District Attorney are especially encouraged to apply. Also, we encourage any bilingual (English/Spanish) candidates to apply since we have many Spanish-speaking clients and most of our attorneys and staff speak Spanish and other languages.
This is a position that requires a candidate to be comfortable with public speaking, thinking on his or her feet, and someone ready to advocate for their clients' best interests. We will provide training and supervision from Partners who have decades of experience in trial work.
The Associate position is outlined below. Note, this is a general description. Additional responsibilities will be required of the candidate.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The Associate Attorney provides legal advice and work product to a supervising attorney or client. In this case, the candidate will be working under the supervision of one or more of the Partners at the firm. In addition, this position:
- Meets with clients and counsels them on their legal needs;
- Conducts all aspects of discovery, gathers evidence in cases to formulate positions.
- Prepares legal briefs, develops strategy, arguments and testimony in preparation for presentation of case.
- Prepares and attends motions and trials.
- Conducts legal research, prepares memorandums and motions, interviews clients and witnesses, and handles other details in preparation for trial.
- Interprets laws, rulings, and regulations for clients.
- Drafts various legal documents in a timely and consistent manner.
Qualifications:
- Admitted to and active member of the North Carolina State Bar;
- Up to five (5) years of experience
- Newly licensed attorneys in NC may apply, but experience in family, civil litigation, and/or criminal and traffic law is preferred;
- Ability to regularly delegate work to staff;
- Ability to think on his or her feet and speak extemporaneously in court;
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to understand, analyze, interpret and convey complex information and concepts;
- Strong analytical, interpersonal and organizational skills;
- Demonstrated record of excellent client service;
- Sound organizational skills. Detail-oriented and capable of handling a high volume of work in a fast-paced environment;
- Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks to meet critical deadlines;
- Keen analytical skills with ability for problem-solving;
- Commitment to developing a book of business and utilizing Firm’s marketing tools to grow the book and practice as a whole;
Technology
- Familiarity with Mac OS
- Filemaker Pro
- Proficient in Office suite;
- Ability to think through and troubleshoot standard technological issues;
- General technology competence is expected.
