Position: Artist Engagement & Events Consultant

Terms of Employment: Consultant (Temporary/Part-Time/Time-Bound) April 1, 2025 – October 31, 2025 (April 1 – June 30: 5-10 hours/week / July 1 – October 31: 15-20 hours/week)
(NYCLU staff is currently working in a Hybrid model. A number of in-person days will be required. Including some in-person evenings and weekends leading up to Sing Out for Freedom on October 27th in NYC and for other in-person artist engagement events throughout the year.)

The Communications Team
The Communications Department is responsible for the NYCLU's external communications strategy to advance the NYCLU's civil liberties and civil rights priorities. This includes criminal justice and policing issues, immigrants' rights, racial justice, education, voting rights, privacy and technology, LGBTQ rights, reproductive rights, and economic justice. We accomplish this by working with high-impact media, launching multimedia advocacy campaigns, releasing reports and research, and running the organization's website and digital channels.
The Development Team
The Development Department seeks to secure the financial resources necessary to support the NYCLU's mission, strategic plan, and work plan. We engage and partner with our members as well as individual and institutional philanthropists. Within the NYCLU, we work closely with other departments on donor messaging and communications to promote brand awareness and educate stakeholders who are concerned with advancing civil liberties and civil rights in New York and the United States.

The Artist Engagement & Events Consultant will support the Artist Engagement Strategist with administrative needs, event planning, and social media marketing related to our Artist Ambassador programming. Additionally, the Consultant will assist the Artist Engagement Strategist and Executive Producer of the annual Sing Out for Freedom benefit concert, including all aspects of event planning, logistical coordination, and social media marketing.
The Consultant is expected to work one (1) full day per week for the months of April, May, and June, and then is expected to work two (2) full days per week – including one day in-person – for the months of July, August, September, and October. The Consultant must be willing to work some in-person evenings and weekends leading up to Sing Out for Freedom on October 27th in NYC and for other in-person artist engagement events throughout the year.
Artist Ambassador Program
Founded in 2020, the Artist Ambassador program was created to help amplify the NYCLU's fight for civil rights and liberties. The program engages, educates and empowers arts community members who are passionate about the intersection of art and social justice.
The Consultant will provide administrative support the Artist Ambassador Program, including:
- Managing the artists4NYCLU Instagram account, including the creation of content
- Attending and taking notes at co-chair meetings
- Collaborating with key staff to develop program content
- Attending and assisting with planning all ambassador events:
- Program Orientation
- Lobby Day
- Pride March
- Possible other artist projects
Sing Out for Freedom Benefit Concert
The 24th annual Sing Out for Freedom benefit concert will be held on Monday, October 27th, 2025. Every year, this concert highlights a theme important to the work of the ACLU/NYCLU and includes performers and speakers from Broadway and beyond that inspire supporters and remind all that the ACLU and NYCLU's work to defend civil liberties in New York and across the country is more vital than ever.
The Consultant will assist with all event logistics, including:
- Researching vendors
- Communicating with potential attendees or supporters
- Collaborating with key staff to develop program content
- Compiling materials for event presentations and day-of event and talent logistics
- Attending and taking notes at all Sing Out for Freedom meetings
- Generating Sing Out for Freedom content for the artists4NYCLU account
- Coordinating Ambassador involvement in Sing Out for Freedom
The New York Civil Liberties Union (NYCLU) seeks a thoughtful and detail-oriented consultant with strong social media, research, planning and organizational skills. The ideal candidate will be motivated, deadline-driven and adept at balancing and prioritizing a variety of tasks, and interested in a career in events, artist engagement and live production. Experience in communication and management of relationships with artists and creatives a plus. Digital design skills are not necessary but a plus.
