Job Summary:
The Mechanic is responsible for maintaining and repairing A-Line's machinery, equipment, and vehicles. This includes regular inspections, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting to ensure optimal performance.
Responsibilities:
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs on trucks, trailers, and industrial machinery.
- Inspect and maintain vehicles, addressing issues like battery checks, oil changes, brakes, electrical systems, and hydraulic repairs.
- Replace parts, bearings, gears, and repair cooling and heating systems in vehicles.
- Use diagnostic tools to identify and fix problems with engines, transmissions, and machinery.
- Troubleshoot and solve mechanical issues quickly to minimize downtime.
- Ensure trucks and trailers meet U.S. Department of Transportation safety standards through preventive maintenance.
- Follow safety protocols when using tools and equipment.
- Maintain accurate records of repairs, work logs, and maintenance activities.
- Monitor inventory levels and order parts as needed.
- Test drive vehicles to verify proper functionality.
- Assist with building and ground maintenance as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned to support the maintenance team.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Strong mechanical and diagnostic skills to troubleshoot and repair trucks, trailers, and machinery.
- Ability to use tools and equipment safely, follow safety protocols, and maintain accurate records of work.
- Good problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize tasks efficiently.
Education and Experience:
- A High School Diploma or equivalent is preferred.
- Valid driver’s license (CDL preferred).
- Certification in diesel mechanics, automotive repair, or a related field preferred.
- Additional certifications in safety, hydraulics, or welding are a plus.
- Proven experience as a mechanic, preferably in industrial machinery, trucks, or heavy equipment.
- Familiarity with diagnostic tools, maintenance procedures, and safety standards.
- Experience with preventative maintenance and troubleshooting mechanical issues.
Physical Demands:
- Must have physical strength, balance, hand-eye coordination, and stamina necessary to complete jobs in a physically demanding position.
- Frequent standing, bending, stooping, and reaching during maintenance tasks.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds regularly.
- Must have the manual dexterity needed to operate hand tools, power tools, and other equipment.
Working Conditions:
- Must be able to work some Saturdays and overtime when needed.
- Must be able to work inside and outside and be exposed to all weather elements, including extreme heat, wind, rain, snow, and freezing temperatures.
- Must be able to work in conditions that are exposed to loud noise, heavy vibration, dust, exhaust fumes, and around hazardous and/or non-hazardous materials.
- Must be able to wear required PPE, including but not limited to hearing protection, eye protection, gloves, hard hats, respirators, and other safety equipment as appropriate for the task.
