What are the responsibilities and job description for the Trailer Mechanic position at A-Line?
Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Maintenance Manager, the Trailer Mechanic is responsible for maintaining and repairing all company owned flatbed and van truck trailers.
Responsibilities:
- Perform preventative maintenance to ensure trailers meet the U.S. Department of Transportation's road safety requirements.
- Perform repairs to brakes, electrical systems, suspensions, alignments, and tires.
- Maintain wheel hubs and axles, adjust or replace them when required.
- Troubleshoot reported problems and resolve them in a timely manner.
- Maintain work logs, compile inspection reports, document repairs, and report findings to management.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Knowledge of air brakes, electrical, and ABS brake systems preferred.
- Ability to read and listen to assignments given in a variety of forms.
- Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Effective collaboration and communication skills.
- Proficient in diagnostic software.
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Successful completion of a relevant apprenticeship program or professional certification in maintenance and trailer repairs preferred.
- Driver’s License preferred.
- Experienced in Mig, Stick Welding and fabrication preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Must have enough manual dexterity and stability as required for precision work.
- Must be able to see details at close range.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
- Must be able to traverse facilities and machinery by climbing, balancing, lifting, walking, stooping, and carrying materials.
Working Conditions:
- Must provide your own tools and tool storage.
- Must be able to work overtime when needed.
- Must be able to work inside and/or outside and be exposed to all weather elements, including extreme heat, wind, rain, snow, and freezing temperatures.
- Must be able to work in conditions that are exposed to loud noise, heavy vibration, dust, exhaust fumes, and around hazardous and/or non-hazardous materials.
