Summary: The Safety Director oversees Health, Safety, and Environmental management for construction projects and company operations.
Role and Responsibilities:
- Oversight of field safety team to ensure compliance with Site Specific Safety Plans.
- Incident case management, injury reporting, fact-finding, and care for team members.
- Compliance inspections, support for 3rd party inspections, and hazard analysis.
- Investigation and resolution of accident hazards and injuries.
- Risk reduction strategies to lower net premium paid through improved experience modifier.
- Data recording, log updates, equipment monitoring, and maintenance scheduling.
- A/Z Corporation Safety Plan updates, team education, and emergency evacuation drills.
- Recommendations and assistance to Project Managers and Superintendents on job site hazards, team member education, new/safe equipment operation, and safe material utilization.
- Corporate worker's compensation program compliance, including claim investigation and resolution.
- Accident, injury, and unsafe working condition investigations, return-to-work strategies, and communication with injured workers.
- Liaison with workers' compensation claims, insurance investigations, and organizational use of material evidence in hearings and lawsuits.
- Regulatory awareness and notification of federal, state, county, and local safety regulations.
- Safety program planning and implementation for manager and employee education on work site safety practices, equipment operation, and fire prevention.
- First aid and CPR education for team members.
- New team member safety orientation, emphasis on specific site hazards, and explanation of applicable precautions.
- Education on Federal and State safety regulations for all staff levels.
- Subcontractor pre-qualification review and acceptance/rejection communication with Field Safety team and Project Manager.
- Risk management, safety policies, and procedures implementation in compliance with federal, state, county, and local rules and regulations.
- CORPORATE CONTACT FOR FEDERAL, STATE, OR MUNICIPAL SAFETY AUTHORITIES AND PERSONNEL.
- Motor vehicle fleet safety program management and driver background investigations.
- Hazardous materials control program management, sample review, and testing.
- Representation in community or industry safety groups and programs.
- Maintenance of a positive work atmosphere through effective communication with clients, subcontractors, coworkers, and management.
- Frequent communication with company President, TCC Corporate Director EH&S, and Operations Managers.
- Participation in client prequalifications and presentations.
- Able to travel within the northeast region.
Essential Skills & Characteristics:
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Follow plans and instructions from supervisors or more experienced workers.
- Interact with co-workers and clients in an attentive and courteous manner.
- Microsoft Office Suite and Procore proficiency.
- Familiarity with OSHA, DOSH, ANSI, NFPA, EPA, Worker's Compensation Regulations.
- Clerical/administrative duties may be required at times.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Minimum 10 years of direct safety experience in commercial and industrial construction.
- Bachelor's degree in Industrial Hygiene, Safety Management, Environmental Science, Occupational Health, or related field.
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST).
- OSHA 510 Certification.
