A123 Systems, LLC is hiring for a Thermal/CFD Simulation Engineer at our Novi, MI location.
The Thermal/CFD Simulation Engineer will have major responsibilities for conducting Li-ion battery system level thermal analysis and battery module/pack level power performance simulations.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Conduct system level thermal analysis using in-house proprietary software to determine battery cooling concept and to size components for a battery thermal management system.
- Build CFD models for battery module and pack level thermal fluid analysis.
- Perform battery pack performance, thermal and life analysis under a given driving cycles and ambient conditions to provide guidance for pack sizing, performance compliance, and pack thermal management system design.
- Provide technical supports to internal users of the in-house battery simulation software.
- Effectively communicate his/her findings to internal/external customers using appropriate media.
- Interacts with product engineer to identify potential thermal management issues, to conduct root cause analysis, and to provide technical proposals and solutions to resolve engineering problems.
- Establishes and maintains technical communications and open issue list for assigned work.
Requirements, Education and Experience:
- Advanced knowledge in Heat and Mass Transfer, Computational Fluid Dynamics, Thermodynamics, Computing Algorithms and Electrochemistry.
- 3 year experience in using Star-CCM .
- 3 year experience in using MATLAB and Simulink.
- Knowledge in Li-ion battery and its thermal management system design is a plus.
- Effective communication and presentation skills demonstrated by interacting with customers, suppliers and co-workers in a positive and constructive manner.
- Self-motivated, details oriented, and willingness to learn new technology.
- MS (or Bachelor with 2 year work experience) major in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Aerospace Engineering.
- 3 year Experiences in CFD and thermal management system simulation for automotive applications, electronics packaging, or similar areas.
- Experience in Li-Ion battery modeling, battery pack development is a plus.
