Position Overview :
The Landscape Purchasing Specialist is responsible for sourcing, procuring, and managing the inventory of materials, plants, equipment, and supplies necessary for landscaping projects. This role ensures timely delivery of high-quality products while optimizing costs and maintaining relationships with vendors. The Landscape Purchasing Specialist works closely with project managers, designers, and vendors to ensure projects are completed efficiently and meet company standards.
Key Responsibilities :
- Procurement and Sourcing :
Identify and source high-quality landscaping materials, plants, and equipment.
Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, vendors, and nurseries.Evaluate and negotiate contracts, pricing, and terms to ensure cost-effective purchasing.Inventory Management :Monitor inventory levels to ensure adequate supplies for ongoing and upcoming projects.
Coordinate with warehouse staff to manage storage and distribution of materials.Track usage and reorder materials as needed to avoid shortages or overstocking.Vendor Relations :Research and onboard new vendors to diversify the supply chain.
Address and resolve issues related to quality, delivery delays, or shortages.Conduct vendor performance reviews to ensure compliance with company standards.Project Coordination :Collaborate with project managers and designers to understand material specifications and requirements for each project.
Ensure timely delivery of materials to project sites to prevent delays.Provide cost estimates and material availability updates to support project planning.Budget and Reporting :Track expenditures and provide regular reports to management on purchasing activities.
Identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality.Maintain accurate records of all transactions and contracts.Compliance and Quality Control :Ensure materials and equipment meet industry standards and company requirements.
Stay updated on environmental regulations and sustainable landscaping practices.Qualifications :
Education : High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelors degree in business, horticulture, or a related field preferred.Experience : 2 years of experience in purchasing, procurement, or a similar role, preferably in landscaping or construction.Skills :Strong negotiation and communication skills.
Knowledge of landscaping materials, plants, and equipment.Ability to read and interpret project plans and specifications.Proficient in inventory management software and Microsoft Office Suite & Sage 300Excellent organizational and time management abilities.Physical Requirements :
Ability to occasionally lift and carry materials up to 50 lbs.Comfortable working in outdoor environments and visiting project sites as needed.Work Environment :
This position is typically office-based but may require occasional visits to nurseries, vendors, and project sites.
