Position Overview:
We are seeking a Tariff Classification Expert with in-depth knowledge of the Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS) to support a federal agency. The ideal candidate will have experience making reliable tariff classification decisions and drafting tariff descriptions for inclusion in the HTSUS.
In this role, you will provide critical support to the 301 Investigation Exclusion Program, evaluating exclusion requests from importers of Chinese goods and making data-driven recommendations based on established criteria.
Key Responsibilities:
- Analyze exclusion requests filed under the 301 Investigation Exclusion Program.
- Review product descriptions, specifications, import records, images, and videos to classify items under the HTSUS.
- Conduct extensive research on products, organizations, HTSUS classifications, and import/export data.
- Evaluate and categorize products based on technical, quantitative, and qualitative criteria.
- Apply knowledge of market and industry trends to assess products and organizations.
- Utilize digital tools and software for research, record-keeping, and analysis.
- Manage large volumes of data using Excel and other analytical tools.
- Strong expertise in HTSUS tariff classification principles.
- Ability to interpret product descriptions, technical specifications, and trade data.
- Experience analyzing tariff classifications, trade policies, and import/export regulations.
- Proficiency in Excel and other digital research tools.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to convey classification decisions effectively.
- Excellent analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.
