Job Function:
The Ports Technical Support Engineer (SE) plans and executes complex field assignments, including installation, modification, testing, inspection, and repair of company products and equipment. The SE is also responsible for coordinating work with other teams to meet customer commitments and providing solutions to improve customer operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Physical & Travel Requirements:
- Ability to perform physical tasks, such as standing, lifting, climbing, and withstanding exposure to harsh weather (cold/heat/humidity).
- Travel (domestic and international) and remote on-call support may be required.
- This position will require travel (80% or 4-6 weeks on site at a time) to North and South America.
Field Service & Technical Support:
- Independently install, modify, test, repair, or inspect equipment including PLCs, Drives, HMIs, automation systems, circuit breakers, transformers, switchgear, and protection relays.
- Interpret technical drawings, make necessary changes on-site, troubleshoot equipment, and provide technical support to customers both on-site and remotely.
- Lead or assist with field service activities and ensure safety and quality standards are met.
Project Coordination & Documentation:
- Work closely with project managers to coordinate site activities.
- Prepare technical documents, such as specifications, quotations, procedures, and service reports.
- Represent the company in customer meetings and report opportunities or issues to management.
- Manage and submit required documentation promptly after assignments, including timesheets, service reports, and expense reports.
Customer Interaction & Sales Support:
- Promote operational optimization and improvement opportunities to customers.
- Foster positive customer relationships and support business development efforts with technical input for quotations and proposals.
Leadership & Mentorship:
- Mentor and guide less experienced staff and customers, sharing technical knowledge and best practices.
- Take on leadership roles in assigned field services and provide decision-making support during complex technical tasks.
Skills & Personal Attributes:

- Exhibit integrity, professionalism, and strong interpersonal communication.
- Maintain a sense of urgency in customer relations and consistently handle technical issues decisively.
Experience & Qualifications:
- 5 years of experience in drives, PLC/process control systems, and MV power distribution.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
- Familiarity with port/container crane work environments and procedures.
- Ability to obtain a Transportation Workers Identification Card (TWIC).
