Abbeville General Hospital is hiring for a Medical Coder Position for the Rural Health Clinics: Full time Medical Coder for day shift (8:00 am to 4:30 pm) Monday to Friday.
Coder II Job Description:
- Assign an ICD-10 CM code to all diagnoses and/or CPT/HCPCS procedure codes on clinic specialist records. . Assign an E&M code for clinic visits and a CPT code for all procedures done by clinic providers Codes are obtained from Optum coding books, AMA CPT coding books and the 3M Health Information Systems Encoder. The purpose of accurate coding is to maintain a disease and procedure index and to process bills for reimbursement. Ability to read and interpret the entire medical record in order to obtain those diagnoses and procedures that will affect the hospital’s reimbursement is necessary. Ability to review charges on clinic records is also necessary. Perform quarterly coding compliance audits for clinics. Must be able to effectively communicate with members of the Medical Staff in order to ensure proper selection of principal diagnosis and identification of all comorbidities and complications which existed and were treated. Must keep abreast of all diagnosis and, procedure code changes as they occur. Must review Uncoded Encounters List utilizing shared reports on a daily basis to ensure timely coding of records. Maintain compliance with Coding Documentation Standard in conjunction with maintenance of productivity standards to meet established standard/goal of 7 days from discharge to final bill. Maintain a 95% coding accuracy rate. This position is on-site for the first 6 months. After 6 months, RHC Director will determine if coder is able to work remotely. Maintaining credentials present at time of hiring is mandatory. It is the responsibility of the employee to maintain active credentials required for this position (RHIA or RHIT)
Coder II Required Experience:
- Minimum of one-year exp preferred in ICD-10-CM, and CPT-4, in an acute care facility coding Inpatient medical records for DRG assignment or coding Outpatient medical records for APC assignment.
Coder II Required Licensure:
- CCA required.
- CPC or CCS preferred.
Coder II Educational Requirements:
- Graduate of an approved school of Health Information Management Administration with an Associate degree in Health Information Management.
Coder II Physical Requirements:
- Medium work as defined by the U.S Department of Labor constitutes a maximum lift of 21-50 pounds on/or a maximum lift of 11-25 pounds on a frequent basis
- May be required to assist in the turning, lifting, or moving patients as well as walking about from patients' rooms, as well as to and from various hospital areas.
