The Opportunity

Our Neuromodulation business includes implantable devices compatible with mobile technology to help people who suffer from chronic pain and movement disorders. These non-opioid therapies allow us to provide interventional pain therapy to patients throughout the pain continuum. In 2021, Abbott’s NeuroSphere Virtual Clinic was named one of Time Magazine's 100 Best Inventions. In addition, Abbott’s Eterna spinal cord stimulator (SCS) - which is the smallest implantable, rechargeable SCS device on the market designed to treat chronic pain - received the Accenture Corporate Innovator Award from Chicago Innovation.

The Director, Quality Engineering will direct and guide the management team in the establishment and achievement of objectives, including all aspects of quality and reliability of products from concept through manufacturing. She or he will establish quality systems and plan to assure design and manufacture of the highest quality products to exceed customer requirements. They will interface with outside regulatory agencies as an Abbott representative.

• Recruits, coaches and develops organizational talent.
• Directs team to ensure compliance around supplier controls, production & process controls, sterilization, and microbiology requirements.

• Interacts internally and externally with executive level management, outside regulatory agencies, customers, vendors and/or suppliers.
• Coordinates across functional areas, business units, and/or geographies in order to achieve company or area goals.
• Utilizes technical/professional knowledge and skills to establish, interpret and execute company policies in a major segment of the company.
• Monitors and ensures compliance with company policies and procedures (e.g. compliance with FDA, BSI, EEO regulations, etc.).
• Makes and executes operational decisions with a strategic perspective.
• Directs and controls the activities and budget of one or more functional areas, divisions, product groups and/or operations.
• Establish Quality Systems that are in compliance with regulatory requirements and meet business needs.
• Reviews, analyzes and presents to senior staff and other groups the effectiveness of the Quality System.
• Recommends and implements changes to the system as the result of changing regulations and/or business needs.
• Analyzes data, makes decisions or provides recommendations to senior staff regarding quality related crises (e.g. patient injury due to product malfunction).
• Communicates quality policies, strategies and procedures to the organization through written documents, presentations and discussions.
  
  

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required in a related field.
• Master's degree preferred in a related field.
• Minimum 12 years of related career experience required.
• Background in a regulated quality system environment required. Failure to adequately perform tasks can result in noncompliance with governmental regulations.
• Track record of developing and/or identifying new work processes that will have broad applicability throughout the company. Contributes ideas for improving work processes and achieving organizational goals.
• Proven ability to create mid- to long- range plans to carry out objectives established by top management. Work is performed without appreciable direction.

The base pay for this position is $168,000.00 – $336,000.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
