AbbVie Immunology is expanding its early discovery (The early Transformational and Translational Immunology Discovery/TTID-Systems Immunology) team in Cambridge, Massachusetts. TTID is focused on identifying new targets for the treatment of autoimmune and chronic inflammatory diseases through computational analysis of human disease tissue derived datasets, and through validating targets using humanized experimental approaches.

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated individual with existing academic or industry experience in translational and systems immunology that drives the discovery and prioritization of new and improved products through the portfolio by the creation, interpretation, and analysis of deep molecular data. The person will closely work together with multiple groups across the organization.

The person will work in a multi-disciplinary team analyzing multi-omic datasets to derive insights into immunological diseases, identify novel therapeutic targets specific to patient cohorts and AbbVie pipeline drugs. In addition, the candidate will contribute to presentations at scientific conferences and publications of translational findings in peer reviewed journals, new drug applications and regulatory filings.

This position will be based in Cambridge, Massachusetts and requires passion, attention to detail, prior hands-on experience, and teamwork.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Establish and develop new analysis strategies in single cell analysis (RNA-seq/ATAC-seq/TCR and BCR-seq etc.).
  • Integrate multi-omics data to infer context-specific regulatory network for target identification and biomarker selection.
  • Develop the network-based machine learning method to assess the drug combination opportunity based on the internal omics data.
  • Interpret findings and effectively present scientific data, concepts, and recommendations to various internal audiences. Participate in feature design and code reviews.
  • Communicate analytical approach and results verbally and in writing for scientific and technical audiences.
  • Provide expertise and technical consultation for external collaborations/partnerships in academia and industry.
  • Collaborate with project teams that address the gaps and impact team decisions and contribute to other project teams where the expertise is appropriate and required.

Basic Qualifications:

  • BS, MS, or PhD in bioinformatics, statistics, mathematics, computer science, computational biology, genomics, or a related field with typically 10-12  (BS), 8-10 (MS), or 0-4 (PhD) years of experience.
  • Highly proficient with statistical and programing languages (R, Python), Unix/Linux/cloud environment etc.
  • Expertise in methods pertinent for functional interpretation of -omics data (e.g., bulk/single-cell RNASeq, proteomics or genomics data), pathway enrichment, functional module detection, causal reasoning.
  • Hands on experience in multi-omics data integration strategies.
  • High proficiency in machine learning (Classification, Clustering, Auto-encoders, Reinforcement and Transfer Learning) and algorithmic analysis of multi-omics data.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Expertise in biostatistics and biomarker/target identification strategies.
  • Understanding of immunology.
  • Experience in predictive modeling & quantitative data analysis.
  • Ability to work in a multiple-tasked, fast-paced, highly collaborative, and dynamic work environment.
  • Proactive scientist with outstanding presentation and communication skills that foster collaboration and teamwork.
