Abby Kelley Foster Charter Public School seeks an experienced, collaborative, and energetic Assistant Principal to join our Middle School team. Abby Kelley Foster Charter Public School (AKFCS) provides an education to 1426 students in grades kindergarten through twelve, comprised of an Elementary, Middle and High School. AKFCS values flexible educators who possess an optimistic, growth-oriented mindset regarding learning, for themselves, staff, and students. JOB SUMMARY:
The Assistant Principal supports the Principal in creating a safe and nurturing environment for all students, supporting school staff, and working collaboratively with families. The Assistant Principal supports the Principal in supervising and coordinating the activities of the faculty and staff assigned to the school, along with implementation of our instructional program. The Assistant Principal models the character virtues and mission of the school.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to:
The Assistant Principal responsibilities include :
Promote a sense of belonging, and support academic and social emotional growth for all students
Provide Student, Staff, and Family Support
Provide in the moment support for teacher guidance/assistance.
Respond to student discipline needs.
Assist the Principal in the articulation and enforcement of school protocols and procedures, including the school attendance and bullying investigations.
Communicate with families/guardians about topics connected to their children, such as student academic progress, interventions, support, student behavior, and discipline.
Meet with families/guardians about their children as requested and needed.
Assist the Principal in interviewing, hiring and orienting new teachers.
Assist the Principal with supervision and evaluation as well as consultation with individual teachers.
Support teaching and learning in the building.
Provide instructional leadership by assisting in the implementation of system and school instructional goals.
Be familiar with various best practices and research-based techniques for diverse learners.
Support school-based teams (i.e. SEB Academy and Safety Committee)
Engage in data meetings and intervention planning.
Help the Principal determine budget priorities including personnel needs.
Assist the Principal in allocating supplies and instructional materials to the classrooms.
Support substitute coverage daily, arrange for in-house coverage if needed, provide for substitute building orientation and supervise their classroom performance.
Assist the Principal in scheduling classes, preparing groupings for the succeeding year, duty schedule, and scheduling changes resulting from field trips and other special events.
Coordinate, arrange and supervise extra-curricular and after school activities programs.
Assist the Principal in the articulation and enforcement of school regulations including the school attendance process.
Support the oversight of lunch/recess supervision.
Assist in arrival and dismissal of the school day
The Assistant Principal has oversight of bus transportation for the middle school, including field trips.
Assist the Principal in the relationship with city police and fire departments and remain in compliance with all drills, including supporting staff on procedures
The AP and guidance office will collaborate on proactive initiatives to support student well-being. Addressing issues before they escalate, fostering a positive school environment.
Coordinates attendance policy and reports for staff and students.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Three (3) years of outstanding teacher experience.
Possession of a master’s degree from an accredited institution.
Possession of or eligibility for a Massachusetts Administrator License.
Knowledge of the principles and practices of pedagogy.
Knowledge of the principles and practices of public education administration.
Knowledge, skill, and successful experience in the use and analysis of school performance data.
Skill, experience, and success in the use of information and instructional technology.
Possession of technology competency (e.g., database, internet, Powerschool)
Skill and experience in data analysis and application.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Ability to maintain confidential information.
Outstanding oral and written communication skills.
