Position Overview:
As the Lead Technician, you will be responsible for managing and executing service operations throughout the greater Pittsburgh area. Your expertise will be essential for installing, servicing, maintaining, and repairing fire suppression systems, fire extinguishers, and emergency lighting units. Beyond your hands-on responsibilities, you will serve as a subject-matter expert for the team, ensuring that all technicians receive the training, guidance, and support needed to meet and exceed company and industry standards.
You will also be expected to maintain direct communication with clients to ensure that all service work aligns with their needs, while mentoring your colleagues to foster growth, efficiency, and safety across the team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead by Example: Oversee and execute service work while providing mentorship and hands-on training for less experienced technicians. Ensure they are equipped with the skills and knowledge to meet the highest standards.
- Service Excellence: Perform complex installations, maintenance, and repairs on fire suppression systems, portable fire extinguishers, and emergency lighting units.
- Compliance & Standards: Ensure all work complies with NFPA standards (NFPA 17, NFPA 17A, NFPA 96) and manufacturer specifications. Stay up to date on all relevant codes and regulations.
- Technical Leadership: Use your extensive technical knowledge to troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve issues on-site, guiding your team through difficult or unique challenges.
- Client Communication: Serve as a trusted point of contact for customers, providing clear communication and ensuring customer satisfaction. Address and resolve any service-related concerns promptly.
- Safety & Efficiency: Maintain a safe, organized job site at all times, modeling safe work practices and ensuring adherence to company safety protocols.
- Team Development: Lead team meetings, training sessions, and ensure ongoing development of technicians’ certifications and skills. Ensure the team remains well-versed in the latest tools, techniques, and technologies in fire suppression and safety.
Qualifications:
- Extensive Experience: A minimum of 5 years of experience in servicing, installing, and maintaining fire suppression systems, fire extinguishers, and emergency lighting units.
- Advanced Certifications: Relevant industry certifications, such as ICC, state credentials, and manufacturer-specific accreditations.
- Leadership Skills: Proven ability to lead and mentor a team of technicians, demonstrating patience, expertise, and strong problem-solving abilities.
- Versatile Technician: A high level of proficiency in fire suppression systems and a broad skill set in troubleshooting, repairs, and system installations.
- Commitment to Excellence: Strong desire to uphold the company’s reputation for high-quality service and customer satisfaction.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Trade school education or equivalent technical training is a plus.
- Valid Driver’s License: Clean driving record with the ability to operate a company-provided vehicle.
Physical and Additional Requirements:
- Ability to lift 50 pounds.
- Comfort working in diverse jobsite environments, including customer facilities, elevated work areas, and confined spaces.
- Ability to climb ladders and work at heights using lifts or scaffolding.
- Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening and background check.
