We are currently hiring for the position of Medical Assistant.
Medical Assistant Duties and Responsibilities:
- Reviews daily schedule of patients before clinic starts
- Ensures that needed supplies are available and readily accessible before clinic starts
- Consistently monitors appointment schedule to ensure low wait times and that all patients are triaged in as timely a manner as possible
- Helps patients by providing information, services, and assistance
- Escorts patients to the triage and exam rooms
- Obtains and records vital signs in EMR (electronic medical record) and takes a brief history of chief complaint/reason for visit; prepares the patient for the provider
- Assists provider with examination and/or procedures as appropriate
- Performs in-house lab tests (throat swabs, nasal swabs, finger/heelsticks, etc) and/or phlebotomy (venous blood draws) as requested by provider
- Runs laboratory specimens using appropriate equipment and/or machines
- Processes laboratory specimens for outside lab(s)
- Performs quality control testing and documents in EMR and/or on lab quality control forms, as appropriate
- Administers immunizations and PPDs (tuberculin skin tests), as requested by provider, using appropriate technique
- Keeps inventory of vaccines and medical/lab supplies and notifies appropriate manager of low stock
- Follows proper procedures to check and document expired vaccines and medical supplies
- Records refrigerator temperatures for vaccines per proper procedures
- Cleans (and re-stocks, if needed) examination rooms in between patients and at the end of the day
- Assists with completion of school forms
- Protects patients’ rights by maintaining confidentiality of medical and personal information
- Maintains a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standard procedures and complying with regulations
- Keeps equipment operating by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining supplies, performing preventive maintenance, and calling for repairs, when appropriate
- Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities
- Serves and protects the practice by adhering to professional standards, office policies and procedures, and federal, state, and local requirements
- Enhances practice reputation by demonstrating excellent customer service to patients and their families
- Exhibits polite and professional communications skills
- Maintains professionalism in all circumstances
- Contributes to team by consistently accomplishing work duties, respecting and valuing other members of the team, and being a team player at every opportunity
Work Hours & Benefits:
- Full-Time (40 hours a week), Part-Time options available as well
- M-F 8am-4pm, hours subject to change

Medical Assistant Qualifications/Skills:
- Effective verbal communication skills
- Appropriate infection control training/technique
- Organization skills
- Excellent customer service skills/Good bedside manner
- Ability to maintain professionalism in all circumstances
- Ability to maintain patient confidentiality
- Ability to work effectively in a team
- Ability to perform inventory on and maintain medical supplies/equipment
Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent education required
- Certificate of completion from an accredited Medical Assisting Program
- College education/degree an asset
- Valid driver’s license or valid form of identification
- At least 2 years experience in a medical setting highly preferred
- Pediatric experience preferred
- Experience with EMRs (electronic medical records), but specific training will be provided
- Familiarity with medical terminology
- Experience with phlebotomy (drawing blood) a plus
- VFC (Vaccines for Children program) training an asset
- Spanish-speaking an asset (and comes with a pay differential)
