Abrazos Family Support Services is a federally recognized 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Since 1978, Abrazos has provided a variety of specialized educational, health, developmental, and parent support services that help families to meet the special needs of their infants, children, and adult family members with disabilities.
The mission of Abrazos Family Support Services is to support children and adults who have developmental disabilities and delays by providing an array of community-based services that meet the needs of the individuals and their families. Our Vision is to empower all children and families to achieve their full potential and live enhanced lives.
Our services are available to individuals and families who live in Sandoval and Bernalillo counties, New Mexico. Our programs include Infant/Toddler Services (early intervention), Autism Services, Respite Services, and Family Living.
Our Respite Program is a flexible, support service that provides care to people with disabilities. This service allows families to take a break from the daily routine of care giving. Contractor Respite providers assist in activities of daily living and promote the individual's health and safety, while providing opportunities for leisure, play and other recreational activities. We are looking for energetic and passionate Independent Contractors who have a desire to make a difference in someone’s life by providing companionship and personal care to children or adults with developmental disabilities.
Scope of Contractor’s Responsibilities:
- Plan and implement delivery of respite services to children and their families on designated caseload.
- Services include DD Waiver and General State Funded Respite as defined and regulated by DOH Developmental Disabilities Supports Division.
- Provide services which reflect developmentally appropriate practice, as well as cultural and linguistic sensitivity.
- Communicate verbally and in writing accurately, precisely and in a professional manner.
- Partner with parents and families of the children served by respite effectively and efficiently, following the training, supervision and direction provided by the families.
Professional Requirements and Qualifications:
- Unquestioned integrity required.
- Must be independent, responsible, and able to respond to emergency situations.
- Meet all the training requirements of the New Mexico DOH for respite providers and provide evidence.
- Maintain current CPR and First Aid Certification.
- Valid NM driver’s license, reliable transportation with current automobile liability policy (bodily injury liability minimum must be $100,000/300,000 and property liability must be $100,000) with continuous coverage.
- Clearing a criminal background check required.
Educational Requirements and Qualifications:
Education: Must be at least 18 years of age and have a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalency.

The position is based in Bernalillo New Mexico and provides a caring and welcoming work environment, flexible scheduling, and hourly pay.
