Construction Site Safety Manager
Job Overview
This position is responsible for managing, implementing, inspecting and enforcing Absher's overall Safety & Health program and the jobsite specific Accident Prevention Plan at job sites to ensure a safe, healthy and accident-free work environment and to ensure compliance with applicable company policies, jobsite contract obligations and local, state, and federal regulations. This positions is located in north King County. Rotating shifts to night work may be required.
What You’ll Do
- Ensure safety goals are achieved on all assigned projects
- Ensure all governmental safety regulations are observed and practices
- Assists the Superintendents by suggesting safe work practices as part of preplanning and training; establishes jobsite safety procedures and developing Activity Hazard Analysis’
- Participates in pre-construction and handoff meetings
- Analyzes need and determines specifications for protective safety equipment, materials and gear
- Conducts comprehensive on-site safety assessments as part of constant monitoring process
- Documents all safety violations or unsafe conditions/activities; ensures corrective measures are immediately implemented; follow through to insure corrections have been made
- Communicates constantly with the Superintendents, Foremen and craft workers in the crew as it relates to both good and bad safety practices that are observed
- Educates project personnel through “on-the-spot” training and Weekly Safety Talks
- Ensure that all Jobsite Safety Checklists are completed in a timely manner
- Completes Accident Reporting and Investigation, as needed; may accompany an injured employee for treatment and medical evaluation
- Assist the Injury Prevention Specialist in coordinating company workers compensation for employees at assigned job sites.
- Orients all project employees to the safety practices required on the project and by the Company
- Accompanies all safety, health and insurance inspectors on walk through tours; coordinates/assists in preparing written appeals for safety violation citations
- Performs role of “competent person” on project for safety and health related concerns
- Coordinates project safety programs with subcontractors to include the review of all subcontractor safety plans and monitor ongoing safety program compliance.
- Assists the Superintendent in investigating property damage and personal injury complaints
- Ensures that assigned job sites are in compliance with required company policies, the approved jobsite Accident Prevention Program and local, state, and federal regulations
- Maintains safety files and records
- Ensures company policies and procedures are understood and implemented consistently
- Assist in the development and continual improvement of the department’s safety program
- Performs additional assignments as directed by the Safety Director
Your Education and Experience
- You have at least 5 years of construction safety experience or 3 years construction safety experience with a 4 year occupational safety/health degree or a Certified Safety Professional certification.
- First Aid/CPR Certification.
- OSHA 30 Certification
- Experience with Sound Transit construction projects preferred.
- Certified Safety Professional Certification preferred.
- A minimum of 24 hours of documented formal competency training in the various aspects of construction safety, health and loss prevention within the last 4 years.

- Successful track record in preventing accidents, avoiding injuries and minimizing liability.
- You have the ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with all project teams and other various Absher Departments.

- Reads, writes, understands and communicates clearly, efficiently and professionally in English.

Physical Demands
This job may be performed in the office or on the jobsite and requires frequent sitting (often working on a computer), frequent walking, standing, bending, and reaching. Heavy lifting may be needed; the employee should be able to lift items up to 40lbs. Due to computer usage, there may be repetitive motions of the hands and wrists. He/she must be able to navigate the jobsite and is expected to be able to comply with all safety regulations in the office and on the jobsite.
