Job Description:
The Summer School Coordinator will oversee the planning, implementation, and evaluation of RCPS’s summer school program. This role involves coordinating with teachers, staff, and parents to ensure a successful and enriching summer learning experience for students.
General Responsibilities:
- Oversee the overall operation of the summer school program.
- Ensure compliance with school policies and procedures.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for all summer school-related matters.
- Work with administrators and the human resources department to hire employees for the summer school program.
- Collect and analyze student data pre-summer school and post-summer school.
- Complete all necessary reports requested by the Virginia Department of Education.
- Works with the transportation department to monitor effective and efficient transportation for students.
Essential Tasks:
- Program Planning and Development:
- Develop and implement the summer school curriculum in collaboration with teachers and administrators.
- Create master schedules with class assignments for teachers and students, ensuring appropriate student-teacher ratios.
- Coordinate the use of school facilities and resources.
- Works with the transportation department to ensure bus routes are created for each site.
- Communicate with parents regarding student attendance in the summer school program.
- Staff Management:
- Recruit, hire, and train summer school teachers and support staff in collaboration with the Human Resources Department.
- Provide ongoing support and supervision to staff throughout the program.
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide feedback.
- Work with data coordinators to collect, analyze, and report student progress.
- Student Enrollment and Support:
- Manage student enrollment processes, including registration and placement.
- Address student and parent inquiries and concerns.
- Monitor student attendance and progress, implementing interventions as needed.
- Work with data coordinators to ensure all student data is collected for reporting purposes.
- Communication and Collaboration:
- Facilitate regular meetings with staff to discuss program updates and address any issues.
- Collaborate with community organizations and partners to enhance program offerings.
- Program Evaluation and Reporting:
- Collect and analyze data on student performance and program effectiveness.
- Prepare and present reports on program outcomes to school and division administrators, the RCPS school board, the Virginia Department of Education, and other stakeholders.
- Identify areas for improvement and make recommendations for future programs.

- Ability to lift and carry materials up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to perform tasks requiring manual dexterity.
Work Environment:
- This is a seasonal position, typically running from February to August.
- The role may require evening and weekend work to accommodate program needs.
- Work is performed in a school environment, frequently interacting with students, staff, and parents.
