Legal Counsel - Labor & Employment

Come work at a place where we take pride in creating a workplace environment that values hard work, commitment, and growth .Job Description : Education : Juris Doctorate from an accredited schoolAdmission to State Bar in at least one StateWork Experiences : At least 3-5 years of labor and employment experience with a major law firm or an in-house legal departmentExperience with a retail company with at least $1 billion in revenue in a corporate environment preferredExperience providing advice and counsel and handling litigation related to all aspects of employment law, including compliance with federal, state and local laws concerning discrimination, harassment, wage and hour matters, compensation, recruiting, immigration, restrictive covenants, workers’ compensation retaliation, ERISA, HIPAA, wrongful discharge and other related torts and benefits lawSignificant experience providing advice and counsel on labor law issues, including union avoidance, unfair labor practices, picketing, boycotts and injunctionsAbility to provide sound and practical legal advice, with proven success and experience with balancing legal risk with business objectivesPrior experience evaluating and assessing riskSkills : High level of professionalism, good judgment and initiativeAbility to analyze complex contracts and transactions and propose creative and practical solutions, even in ambiguous situationsAbility to work well under pressure while consistently meeting time sensitive deadlinesAbility to remain organized, pay attention to detail, and meet critical deadlinesExcellent customer service skillsAbility to work well independently, as well as effectively contribute to a team environmentAnalytical with strong problem-solving abilities and creative resolution skillsAbility to manage a team, both internally and externallyStrong supervisory, coaching, and training skillsStrong leadership ability and conflict resolution skillsStrategic planning skillsMaintain the highest level of confidentialityStrong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills to interface effectively with individuals at various levelsResponsibilities : Advise Human Resources Department and other business clients regarding compliance with all requirements in the area of labor, employment and benefits.Partner with Human Resources Department and other business clients regarding Company policies affecting the Company’s relationships with its employees, vendors, customers and other third parties.Develop strong partnership with executive management, senior management from other corporate departments, distribution centers, stores and their vendorsRepresent all Academy departments and locations on enterprise-level issues both internally and externallyPartner with business clients to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner, gather and analyze information skillfully and maintain confidentialityDevelop standardized processes and procedures for the organization in identified practice area(s)Develop and manage policies and procedures regarding labor and employment issuesReview, recommend and manage outside counsel to represent Academy in legal mattersManage legal staff, including paralegals and administrative assistantsAssist with annual budget submissions for identified practice area(s)Operate within constraints of the financial budget for assigned practice area(s)Identify and develop projects spanning other corporate departments, distribution centers, stores and their vendorsIdentify and implement growth strategies and process improvements across multiple areasDevelop a thorough understanding of Academy’s policies, procedures and safety rulesDuties may change; team members may be required to perform other duties as assignedPhysical Requirements & AttendanceAcceptable level of hearing and vision to perform job dutiesAdhere to company work hours, policies, procedures and rules governing professional staff behaviorFull time Equal Employment Opportunity Academy is an Equal Opportunity Employer and does not discriminate with regard to employment opportunities or practices on the basis of race, religion, national origin, sex, age, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, or any other category protected by law.#J-18808-Ljbffr
