Job Summary
The Activities and Events Coordinator plays a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for elderly residents in Acadia Parish by planning, organizing, and implementing engaging activities tailored to their interests and needs. This position is essential in fostering a vibrant community atmosphere, promoting social interaction, and ensuring that all individuals have opportunities for recreation and personal growth. This role requires traveling between sites to engage with the community, distribute promotional materials, solicit donations and prizes and boost senior membership in the program. The ideal candidate will have experience in working with senior programs or recreational therapy, particularly in a group setting and a background in marketing, fundraising or public relations.
Duties
- Develop and implement activities program that meets the diverse needs of individuals, including those with aging issues.
- Communicate effectively with individuals, families, and staff to ensure activities are well-coordinated and enjoyable.
- Organize recreation sessions that promote physical, emotional, and social well-being.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of programs and make adjustments based on consumer feedback and changing needs.
- Train and supervise volunteers or staff assisting with activities to ensure a high standard of care.
- Host and facilitate community events.
- Travel to event locations to distribute flyers, engage with the community and promote upcoming activities.
- Solicit donations and prizes from local businesses and organizations to enhance event offerings.
- Actively recruit and encourage senior participation in the program.
- Collaborate with local partners, sponsors and vendors to enhance event experiences.
Requirements
- Strong communication skills to effectively interact with residents, families, and team members..
- Experience working with individuals 60 years of age and older is a plus.
- Compassionate caregiving skills with an understanding of aging issues.
- Ability to organize events and manage multiple tasks simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail.
- A genuine passion for enhancing the lives of seniors through meaningful activities.
- Ability to solicit sponsorships, donations and in-kind support from local businesses.
- Willingness to travel throughout Acadia Parish.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and social media platforms for event promotion.
