Job Overview:
The Director of Philanthropy is responsible for identifying and cultivating prospective donors in the MoWSC (Meals on Wheels Sacramento County) community, soliciting donations, and nurturing donor relationships through regular contact, communication, and recognition. For fundraising, this position also develops and maintains relationships with MoWSC and the local community. All candidates must bring a mission-driven and community-minded approach to the role. This position reports to the ED (Executive Director).
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Creates and executes a comprehensive annual fundraising plan per fundraising goals to support and ensure steady growth and sustainability.
- Plans and executes a successful leadership-giving program to build the number and gifts from donors and corporations with the ability to make gifts of $1,000 or more; manages an appeal schedule and creates solicitation mailings and lists; executes event logistics; works with third-party event fundraisers; visit groups, corporations, foundations on behalf of MoWSC.
- Cultivates new sources of revenue by strategically expanding the existing donor base with a focus on major gifts, grant writing, planned giving and development of a Legacy Program.
- Works closely with the Fund Development team and ED to execute operational strategies to increase prospective donor pool for major and annual campaigns, sponsorships, foundation gifts; contacts donors and funders per meetings, crafts proposals, organizes cultivation events, and solicits donations.
- Creates individualized cultivation plan for major donors to retain and/or upgrade donations and gifts as appropriate via annual event and sponsorship opportunities.
- Oversees stewardship efforts including donor recognition, special events, stewardship mailings and annual impact reports for donors and funders
- Provides staff support for fundraising committees and the Board of Directors.
- Oversees stewardship tasks, such as writing thank-you notes and making calls, as well as editing content for gift receipt letters. This includes timely execution of donor acknowledgments and fulfillment of donor benefits.
- Ensures compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and ethical standards related to fundraising and development activities.
- Stays current on best practices and trends in nonprofit fundraising and development.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing/Communication for Non-Profit progressively responsible fundraising experience, including direct mail, and face-to-face fundraising; 6 years of a combination of education and work experience. Certified Non-Profit Professional desired.
- Proven experience building & growing a comprehensive fundraising program with a particular focus on major, annual, corporate, and foundation giving and achieving annual fundraising goals in excess of $2M annually.
- Ability to manage fundraising events from inception to close, including but not limited to budget management, volunteer recruitment, securing sponsorships, event promotion, day of event management, and delivering final event close-out details to the Fund Development Committee and Executive Director.
- A demonstrated track record of building relationships and closing major gifts from individuals, foundations, and corporations.
- Superior presentation skills, including the presence to deal effectively with diverse constituencies including donors, Board members, and leadership staff
- Excellent organizational skills required. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, be detail-oriented, and work under pressure of multiple and subsequent deadlines.
- Proficiency using data to establish a robust donor pipeline and strategy for sustainable growth.
- Manages donors, tracks progress and results, and runs necessary reports using the Blackbaud CRM database.
- Proficient in MS Excel, Word, Outlook.
- Superior oral and written communication skills and strategic listening skills to effectively exercise tact, discretion, judgment, and diplomacy when interacting and/or negotiating with all levels of internal and external stakeholders.
- Mastery of business terminology, financial matters and the ethical, legal, and tax-related issues regarding the solicitation, transfer, and management of charitable gifts
- Experience building and managing strong, positive relationships with stakeholders including underrepresented and/or diverse communities; experience working for non-profit preferred.

Salary : $95,000 - $110,000
