Position Overview
Position Summary:
The Research Associate for Quality Control is a key member of the Operations Team under the direction of the Team Lead for Consumable Quality Control. This individual will be responsible for testing of incoming product both analytically and biologically in support of manufacturing. This will include, but is not limited to, operation of a pH/conductivity meter, refractometer, fluorometer, and in-house biotechnology systems. This person will be part of a team that executes these tasks on a daily basis.
Essential Functions:
- Routine sample preparation and execution of various QC methods including:
- Daily maintenance of bacterial subcultures
- Preparation of bacterial suspensions in blood and various media
- Manufacturing reagents
- Instrument Calibration
- Execute Analytical QC Testing
- Execute Biological QC Testing
- Analysis of QC Testing
- Communication of results/challenges amongst internal teams
- Preparation of QC paperwork for review by Quality Assurance (QA)
- Documentation of reagents and equipment used for testing
- Sequester / maintain consumable retains
- Maintaining lab organization, cleaning, and inventory stock
- Support Consumable manufacturing activities as required
- Support Fill and Formulation activities assigned
- Managing Kanban cards for reordering material and cycle count
- Cutting foil to fulfill the requirements of production
- Wash and Autoclave dishes
Qualifications & Skills
Formal Education / Relevant Experience:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Chemistry, or related life sciences.
- Minimum 1 year laboratory and/or research experience preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Experience handling hazardous biological organisms (BSL2) is a plus
- Microbiology Coursework/Lab work is a plus
- Experience in GDP environment preferred
- Knowledge of basic wet / bench chemistry preferred
- Excellent written/verbal communication skills
- Organized, meticulous, diligent, flexible
- Good problem solver / critical thinking skills
- Learns quickly with good initiative
- Comfortable using Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Must be available to work weekends as part of schedule
